Look, you are either #antiracism or you're #antiracist - the difference being: are you a Daryl Davis or not?
Some seem to think that #hate will win against hate, that the only solution is to fight fire with fire. But as my mother always said, fighting fire with fire burns the whole forest down.
Know that what Mr Davis did was point out the obvious: #racists are just confused and scared human beings. You can win them over, they can be helped.
But it's all about #psychology.
One of my failures (and it is mine, for pure lack of diplomacy and empathy) is not being able to win over the part of my family that sees me as an #apostate. They are #nationalist #luthren, and #zionist.
I've been fighting #islamophobia since I was young. I've been ostracized for it, I've been put out in the cold by those who are supposedly my family, I've been treated like an inferior.
In the end I wish I was more diplomatic. I wish I had made an honest attempt to reach them, but I failed.
Know that #racism is (at a #psychological level) #paranoia and #narcissism. They are problems of the human psyche that most people ignore - especially if they are afflicted.
When distortions become reality, you live between dimensions, somewhere between reality - and fiction.
What's necessary is to break down that fiction, to bring clarity, to lighten the weight of fear, the hatred for others - and the self - from their shoulders, for it is the only way to cull racism.
So when you think of #DarylDavis and the likes, you're thinking of #humanist #heroes, who fight against #racism and not the #racist, who dare to talk with people filled with hate, to treat them like humans and to help them liberate themselves from said hate and ignorance, of said delusions.
If a #confederate statue goes down today, put one up of Daryl, and write on the plaque:
"When hatred and ignorance
besieges the soul,
only love and understanding
can set it free".
