First Mt Bike ride of the season!
Mostly chainsaw work on a trail in Vermont: bike a 100ft or so, get chainsaw out of backpack to cut and clean blowdowns, repeat. Wonderful warm morning after a little early rain that freshened things up.
I should start picking better spots where I have my brakes...
When I am sitting in front of Aldi, dirty from riding and on the ground, I just look too much like beggar.
I just had to politely decline 2€...
"For a sport and hobby that has long been expensive and predominately white and male, Bentonville also presents an opportunity to bring more people safely into the cycling fold" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/13/us/how-an-arkansas-city-became-an-epicenter-of-the-biking-world.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare < Not sure how replicable this is with the scale of private investment, but this is very interesting #Cycling #BikeTooter
I did two longer bicycle trips with my Brompton this year. The first one from Vienna, Austria, to Bamberg, Germany; and the second one from Berlin to Bamberg. Together, this was two weeks of bicycling in splendid spring weather with not one rainy day. Although the weather was perfect for bicycling, the drought causes plenty of clearly visable troubles for forests, farming, and river traffic. But this is another story.
Since it’s mud season in our neck of the woods it's time for mud guards. I printed this one for last year and while it worked for some time, it ended up breaking when I hit it while getting on the seat. It uses tie-wraps to secure and that's too much inflexible stuff to handle being slammed into. This year I’m using springs and it has been holding up even after quite a few hard hits.

A few weeks ago @notjustbikes released a video on Klinkers, the standardized bricks used for paving in the Netherlands. Today, on a bike ride near Sint Michielsgestel (near 's-Hertogenbosch), I found odd 'ribbed' klinkers used as lane markers in the bike lane.
Just because I'm a weirdo, I made a 3D model of the klinker, and subsequently an animation of it.
Gif Attached, but if that doesnt work: https://garrettspeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/ribbedanimatedpleasure_i30o5.gif

Hard to see my bike as it blends into the scene...

And the second (and last) clip: I was just smiling at this panorama. Spring all around with some snow still on the mountain tops ...
Well it made me smile, maybe it makes you smile as well.
On the way home, after the first ascend, that is my view of the Blauen over there #mdRnH #eBike #BikeTooter
I have exciting news to share. Version 2.0 of the @CyclingGuide mobile app is now available in Google Play Store for Android and the App Store for iPhone. It has plenty of improvements. See the details here, and please try it out if you haven’t before. Did I mention that I'm excited?
Happy cycling!

I will have to do my laundry in #decathlon
So if you have any suggestions for replacement that isn't cycling specific or doesn't look like cycling clothes I will be glad to hear them. It has to survive more than 3 months of riding.
Moin,

My Brompton and every now and then a train. I love this combination for travelling. I am about to reach my destination, Graz, Austria. I will stay here until after Easter and most likely eat too much.
Look! some drivers have read the Highway Code (rule 182).
Some balance after last week's toot.
I cannot get over how accurately @pete described one of the big conundrums in road traffic the other day:
"How little space a cyclist needs to filter through stopped motor traffic but conversely how much space is required to make a cyclist feel safe when that same traffic is moving."
It's entirely possible that the only way to help people understand this is to let them ride in traffic. At the base is the realisation that a moving vehicle is a danger to everybody around it.
