Discussing at diner my nephew’s decision to quit #Australian Defence Force training which he began only a few months ago.

His sole reason for quitting after trying so hard to get accepted.

THE RACISM.

He is absolutely gutted.

Don’t think racism is ingrained in #Australia? Then you’re living under a rock.

I thought we were better than this. Apparently not.

Re-upping from yesterday: the U.S. can only survive if it restores rule of law, commitment to democracy and being a diverse nation of immigrants and their descendants.
Without doing so, it may exist as something else, but not as the USA.

Summer Fest 2025 💥 #Boston

✨What an honor to lead a HIIT class at the 4th Annual Heatwave D4 Summer Fest in my home neighborhood of Dorchester. It was a full celebration of movement, #music, and #community resilience.

❤️The highlight for me? Having my mother, Millie, join the festivities. Her presence was a powerful reminder that this work is generational.

📣Huge thanks to Councilor Brian Worrell, The Hoop Collaborative, and everyone who made this day possible.

"The increasingly diverse students in the United States want to know the histories of their communities, and those who don’t come from those communities need to know their histories as well, because in doing so they are learning the stories of their neighbors and fellow Americans. The bell can’t be un-rung."

"The second Trump administration has spent its first months trying to rewrite America’s story into a whitewashed, ahistorical national account. Officials yanked down and removed racial and ethnicity breakdowns from a federal employee database, took federal government datasets offline, and blocked the release of a report that projected a trade deficit for farm goods."

"It’s this America that Donald Trump and his movement hope to condemn to the ash heap of history. It’s this America that they’re fighting to destroy with their attacks on immigration, civil rights laws, higher education and the very notion of a pluralistic society of equals."

"But for all its harsh notes and discord, this was the closest the country ever came to the 'composite nation' of Frederick Douglass’s aspirations: a United States that served as home to all who might seek the shelter of the Declaration of Independence and its 'principles of justice, liberty and perfect humanity equality.'”
