"Omarchy is an omakase distribution based on Arch Linux and the tiling window manager Hyprland. It ships with just about everything a modern software developer needs to be productive immediately. That's everything from Neovim (btw) to Spotify, Chromium to Typora, and Alacritty to LibreOffice. Hell, even Zoom is there!

This isn't just a grab bag of preinstalled packages, though. It's a complete system designed with both aesthetics and productivity in mind. Because a beautiful system is a motivating system, and productivity has always been downstream from motivation.

It's true that developing an eye for the beauty of a TUI-heavy, theme-delighted, tiling-window-managed system like Omarchy can be an acquired taste. But that's why you're here, isn't it? To experience something a little outside of your comfort zone? To embark on a little bit of an adventure into a new way of working with computers? I hope so.

Omarchy isn't like Windows and it's not like macOS either. It's not trying to be as familiar as possible. It's trying to be beautiful and better. Embrace the Linux-ness of it all. Manually editing some config files, sure. Heavy on the terminal, definitely.

Let's get started with the basics."

Can you explain to a non-coder (like, is it even possible) why it's apparently difficult in Linux to create programs so that they take on the design/format of the DE they're in?

This may be a *stupid* question, but I'm curious, so if you feel like waxing poetic, I'd be grateful.

Reason 7 To Choose Linux 😍

You decide when to install updates and reboot your computer!

Security updates are critical. They should be done early and often to keep your computer safe.

But you don't want your device to force an update - and then reboot - while you're working.

With #Linux, the decision when to update is yours.

@neil pointed me to this: developer.android.com/develope

This will make alternative app stores like #fdroid mostly useless on #android devices with a stock rom, since most apps won't install at all, unless also available through the play store.

Being the dev of the #floss #apps #TinyWeatherForecastGermany and #imagepipe, it is unlikely that the apps will be available for devices running a stock rom in the future, since I likely won't share my private keys with G****e nor will I give them a copy of my ID.

@tauon I thought you would appreciate #Mineclonia on #luanti a pretty faithful #FLOSS #minecraft clone, not 100% complete but definitely in a very playable state and been actively updated since it began life as fork from Mineclone2 with the purpose of being closer to minecraft, Ive played a couple dozen hours and really enjoyed it. Its got a weird mix of an alpha vibe worldgen * assets mixed in with some of the modern features like lots of flowers bees, banners. world is 32k x 32k x 32k (xyz)

I kind of buried myself in Linux stuff because I needed an apolitical hobby.

Turns out, Linux is not apolitical, which I should have known to start with.

That said, the parts of Linux I haunt are progressive-to-anarchist in their politics, so I don't mind. :)

I'm encountering a bug in #Waterfox where every time I start the app, it opens on a page that is one, specific extension I use (#Substitoot, if that matters). I've reset the "Home" options in Settings every which way I can imagine, but when I start the program, I can watch as it loads up a page with that one extension.

Any ideas for how to fix this? It's mostly just annoying.

@acf

Right now, I can use a local LLM.

It uses no water, other than what I drink. And its like 30 watts of power, and half my video card.

I have games that consume more resources than my local LLMs.

I'm sure if you're using closed source, remote, proprietary LLMs like "openAI", yeah its terrible. Or crammed-down-the-throat AI bullshit on search engines.

But #FLOSS #LocalFirst #LLM is the real way forward.
