One thing that was easier to find on the #web 20 to 25 years ago through search engines is diverse #torrent collections.

I miss those sites were people offered their personal book collections or fan video and image collections of whatever. The type of #site you'd go to to find Richard Linklater's first film or some short film that was shown on some Polish #film festival once but never officially released on any medium instead of what's hot from Hollywood. Sites where people would upload new punk rock albums and skateboard videos every day. Places were you would find TV recordings of all sorts of stuff from people who just couldn't accept that this stuff wasn't archived publicly.

Knowing about the deep web I'm sure communities like this are still around. But I don't even know how to find what's been shown in #Cannes this year.

I interested myself in 360-degree films. And did a couple of them.

360 forces you to think differently about the set and the direction of shot (everything is on display, there is no “behind the camera”) and that necessarily creates original perspectives and raises interesting questions around the “gaze" and directing or not the gaze.

And finally, 360 has it's own artifacts and effects (undesirable for most) that I find aesthetically interesting (geometric and chromatic distortion, etc.). It reminds me a little of the flickering of Super 8, or the speed jumps of hand-cranked cameras. I like it. I like to feel and be aware of the machine that was there in the making of the film.

And if someone chooses to show them with a helmet, they are immersive experiences.

I stopped doing 360 because there are few festivals and they all charge (a lot).
