I wish kids today could experience the internet as I did, before search engines, enshitification and a few websites holding monopolies on people's attention.
Like, it makes me sad to think of them missing out on the absolute mystery that was the internet back then. Nobody knew what it was, how to use it, where to find stuff. You would get 'secret' websites on notes during class, or scribbled on the bus stop with a sharpie.
This... this just doesn't happen anymore. People either go directly to [big corpo brand website] or to ... well, let's be realistic here, google and search for it. With the advent of AI, this effect is exacerbated as it adds another layer of abstraction between them and the actual, raw, internet.
The monopolization of the distribution of information was a concern for newspapers, for radio and TV, so why wouldn't it be for the internet as well?
