I wish kids today could experience the internet as I did, before search engines, enshitification and a few websites holding monopolies on people's attention.

Like, it makes me sad to think of them missing out on the absolute mystery that was the internet back then. Nobody knew what it was, how to use it, where to find stuff. You would get 'secret' websites on notes during class, or scribbled on the bus stop with a sharpie.

This... this just doesn't happen anymore. People either go directly to [big corpo brand website] or to ... well, let's be realistic here, google and search for it. With the advent of AI, this effect is exacerbated as it adds another layer of abstraction between them and the actual, raw, internet.

The monopolization of the distribution of information was a concern for newspapers, for radio and TV, so why wouldn't it be for the internet as well?

When Elon Musk met Ghislaine Maxwell at a 2014 gala, she reportedly asked him if “there were a way to remove oneself from the internet,” and encouraged Mr. #Musk to destroy the internet.

8 years later Musk bought twitter for 80 BILLION, the then premier #internet communication service, arguably one of the more important platforms. It's is now a #fascist platform infested by #AI.

Yesterday, Musk switched off #starlink to aid a brutal dictator in a war against the largest (geographic) democracy in Europe.

I can’t believe folks think I love computers just because I use them, or love the internet because I’m online. And that I love the world simply because I’m alive and haven’t given up on it (suicide).

Some people are dumb, selfish, and have zero empathy. What choice do I have in today’s fucked-up system but to call it out, resist it, and live my life on my own terms?

A while ago, my mom found a website (or an email, I forgot) that she wanted to show me. So, she printed it and scanned the print and sent it to me as an attached file.

However, these days, I have stopped making fun of her about it, seeing the number of people who share screenshots instead of links to the original content.

„Have you tried turning it off and on again?” Die Realität der Systemadministration geht weit über dieses popkulturelle Klischee hinaus. 🖥️

Mannat Kaur erforscht sozio-technische
