One of the people on the MPAQ encrypted chat service:

So everyone by now knows what is happening. If you can't see the atrocities taking place then I honestly don't know what to tell you. If you are cheering them on them shame on you, you are hateful and full of evil. If you were fooled into thinking that it would "only" affect people you personally do not like or who you have been told are "bad" instead of extending to literally EVERYONE then congrats, you are either hateful or at the very least did not listen in the mandated history, social studies and civics classes (or at least play catch up later which by all means YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD!) and are astronomically ignorant. Sorry, you are either A. Extremely hateful B. Not very bright or C. Hateful and ignorant
Educate yourselves on HOW the holocaust started. We are balls deep in it.

JEWISH IMMIGRANTS WERE ONLY THE START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(#IMMIGRANTS)
And they started by telling you these people were "criminals" or "illegal" mind you.

Then it progressed to all jews
People of color (Hispanic and brown folks)

People of certain religions such as Jewish and Catholics
(Muslims)

#Queer people
(self explanatory here)

To disabled people and eugenics
(Autistic folks, mentally ill, addicted)

To "#vagrants"
(#Houseless people, travelers)

And eventually...
To anyone who dared speak out or that the #nazis just "didn't like"

It started as #SCAPEGOATS, for some in the beginning maybe even a "ha ha!" before it progressed to massive incarceration, detainment and eventually death. Where the FUCK is your headspace?!

Jesus was an immigrant, he was brown, he was poor, he was #houseless, his earthly parents FLED to save his life when he was still a baby!

To the least of his people?

You are denying them shelter, food, water, clothing, adequate sanitation. You are ripping infants and children from their mother's breast and families arms on the street! In broad daylight!

And cheering this on WHY?! Because of a technicality they have warped unconstitutionally that originally did not even fucking EXIST?! Our founding fathers (the ones among them who were not racist assholes) would be FUCKING PISSED!

The teachers who taught you about pioneer days (though the settlers and colonizers did a lot of fucked up shit a lot of people just sailed right in),
the industrial revolution era where the melting pot grew even more (Irish ect need not apply),
and later the #holocaust and also the #Japanese internment camps (Where they kidnapped anyone who looked Japanese, even families born here! And the holocaust and countless other examples throughout history of them kidnapping people that should all be self explanatory) would be FUCKING PISSED

And you know what? I can't really speak for them, but you know what? If I had to take a guess, just a long shot... Jesus and God would probably be FUCKING PISSED!

And so should anyone with even a single ounce of #humanity left!

Breaking my social media silence to look for a #transgender #Japanese-to-English #translator who would be interested in #translating a rather famous #manga featuring transgender characters. I will help, but N1 or an equivalent level in #Japanese is a must. Writing experience is a big plus. Preference will be given to #Black, #Brown, or #Indigenous translators. Please send me a private message if you are interested or have questions. #BIPOC #translation

So I guess with me trying to be active here it might be useful for me to give a quick Intro post.

I'm into #vr #scifi , languages especially #japanese and #swedish . Some of my fave video games are #KSP #Stationeers #cyberpunk and #subnautica .

I was into decentralization before it was a grift and I deeply value authentic connection.

Some of my Fave authors are #BeckyChambers and #JRRTolkein .

I also am big on feminist theory and intersectionality with disability.

I was going about this the wrong way. it is almost impossible to find the Colônia Man'yôshû (the foremost collection of Japanese-language poetry by immigrants in Brazil, published in 1981. not in used bookshops, not in library catalogues, not googling (but google is worthless to look up non-English, non-platform netosphere these days).

I was considering paying someone to gradually scan the one copy I know there is at the Japan Foundation library in São Paulo but then it hit me, Mirri Mazz Dur voice on my mind—of course, if I want this Brazilian book I have to look at the exact opposite of the globe, to go West you must go East
ci.nii.ac.jp/ncid/BA58068331

pretty trivial to find in Japanese libraries, there's like academic studies on it and everything jstage.jst.go.jp/article/takah

which means I can ILL it via Ostasienwissenschaften library via Stabi for like 4 bucks.

I don't think the Colônia Man'yôshû was ever translated even in Portuguese, let alone English… I feel like I'm more or less the ideal person to translate this, without performative humility, like, we all have our niches, and I studied Old and Classical Japanese as well as tanka/haiku metrics and poetics, I'm from the same cultural context as the immigrants (rural Southern Brazil), I'm blessed by a touch of the poetic sense… it would be a daunting task to be sure, 6600+ poems by 1300+ authors, but the beauty of Japanese poetry is that even a few day's worth of a partial translation already gives you many complete works to chew on and have a taste.

the copyright would be madness to arrange, though :thonking: the publication is credited to the "Society for the Publication of the Colônia Man'yōshū" which, if it ever was a formal corporation, certainly has disappeared for decades, as will be most of the poets, who were already old by the time they decided they needed a record of their poetry meetings. but 1981 isn't that old that it would be in public domain either…

I'm trying to precise reasons why the Green Goddess (Kenkyūsha's Waei/Eiwa dictionary) is so much better than JMdict and other free options.

one big factor is just careful quality editing, and another are the sample usages of every single sense and nuance. those are very hard to do in an open-source project. one day it might be possible to relate Tatoeba examples to JMdict glosses—when you're as deep into the DTD as I am right now, you can see that Jim has made preliminary efforts in this direction—but the task is daunting, and even if we figure out how to annotate the several hundred thousand entries of JMdict, the Tatoeba sentences aren't even that good.

so that's two strikes out. but there's one think where I think the GG is widely superior to most free dictionary apps, and which can be fixed: the information layout.

1. Entry headings are indexed by words, not by kanji; alternative orthographies are unified under the same word;
2. each sense is given space to breathe into its own section;
3. common compounds/collocations are grouped within each sense.

I want this basic layout to be the default output mode for Shin Myougiden Super R.

I have released the version 01.001.000 of KanjiVGEditor:

* selection of a number in the graphical display
* pull data from a GitHub public repository
* remove duplicate numbers, add missing numbers (positioned next to the first control of the path), sort numbers
* automatically scale the background image to match the KanjiVG size
* prevent the user from deleting groups StrokePaths and StrokeNumbers

#Japanese scholars and translators will know of the "Green Goddess", Kenkyūsha's Japanese-English dictionary, incomparably more useful than about any other dictionary I've ever seen including the open source EDICT/JMdict that's ubiquitous in free apps One of the first things I do setting up a new phone or laptop is to pirate the GG's EPWING file and add it to a reader (though EBpocket for Android is catching on years...)

I've randomly stumbled on this interesting blog-like collection of notes by Tom Gally, one of the English editors

v fun read from the factory work of lexicography! amusingly, they're not listed by date or in publication order, but like an alphabetical subject index.
