@jwildeboer

Totally echo your emotions! That’s the last 15 years of my home lab life!!

I’ve created a workflow to capture all the stuff I come across, to investigate, in my second brain - #Joplin (with a self-hosted Joplin server, of course 😉).

But the list is growing faster than I can keep up 😆

ok so it seems like they are transitioning to some new system, while also somehow keeping the old one (?)
#logseq has a lot of open issues, most of them don't seem to get resolved. On Android, I can only use backspace to delete blocks if I use GBoard or Samsung Keboard - no FOSS keyboard :((
And I've read some things about data loss and privacy issues when using the "publish" feature.
I think I'll try something else. Any suggestions? I'm considering #joplin , #appflowy , #siyuan , #beavernotes , #zettlr

#Joplin works on anything, even a #terminal. Syncs across platforms as well, if needed. The list of everything is at the bottom of the landing page.

It also has a robust message board and I've learned a lot of helpful things there.

Because I like to index a lot of things (in addition to tagging) I appreciate that I could use stuff like HTML to make internally-navigable note collections, as each individual note has its own link available.

Eg: I can organise my research notes easily by both date and alphabetical topic. I could also create a keyword index if I want/need.

Basically, #Joplin is extremely open: YOU decide what to do with it and how you want it to work.

For me, it genuinely revolutionised my life wrt those many bits of paper, whether simply for personal interest or critical data. 🙂

Good luck in your pursuit of the right solution for your needs! ❤️

Yes, those apps are similar to #Joplin (as I understand it) but Joplin is no-charge and has an amazingly small footprint for a lot of content (mine).

I think I first tried this sort of thing with Agenda and woth a handful of notes it ballooned to a huge size for storage. On Joplin, I had literally thousands of notes in it before it got anywhere near the size of Agenda on my iOS device.

I've also loved how I can organise it entirely however I want, with both Markdown and HTML functionality, as well as internal cross-linking. It also has tags but I use a different system of my own that works better for me (and that I developed long before for use on other files I keep, so things remain consistent.)

For me, it's like a personal, private website full of data I actually want and use, and no ads either. 😛

Folks all have their organising preferences but my own recommendation to consider remains #Joplin.

When I would get too many of these, usually done on sticky notes, I would stuff them in Ziploc sandwich bags. Eventually there are enough of those to fill large freezer bags.

For me, I did actually want to keep these notes, as well as keep them searchable.

For that purpose, I ended up using the #app #Joplin, and I am delighted with all of the things I can do with it. ❤️

And then I shredded the paper copies of the notes once I was done, lol! 😂

@DismalManorGang If you #selfhost stuff, you probably have #nextcloud. It’s the rock solid foundation for so many selfhosted ecosystems. In that case Joplin supports WebDAV. So you don’t need a special Joplin server if you have a working Nextcloud server (I think). I am not a heavy #Joplin user. But I’ve used it enough to set it up this way.

It works fine for me, but since I’m not a power user, I don’t know if maybe there’s something that doesn’t work as well this way.
