CLondoner92 (New Account)<p>The <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/European" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>European</span></a> Commission has approved a plan to complete the high-speed rail link between <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Madrid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Madrid</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Lisbon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Lisbon</span></a> by 2034, setting key milestones to ensure progress. Supported unanimously by Member States, the project aims to fully integrate <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Portugal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Portugal</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Spain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Spain</span></a> into the European high-speed rail network. By 2030, travel between the capitals will take around five hours, reducing to three by 2034. Covering just over 600 km, the line will offer a sustainable alternative to air <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/travel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>travel</span></a>, cutting emissions and boosting cross-border connectivity. The <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/EU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EU</span></a> has already invested nearly €1 billion through various funds, including €235 million for Portugal’s Évora–Elvas section. The decision forms part of wider efforts to advance cross-border transport under the revised TEN-T Regulation and reflects the EU’s goal of a connected, sustainable, and efficient European rail network.<br><a href="https://transport.ec.europa.eu/news-events/news/commission-adopts-plan-complete-madrid-lisbon-high-speed-connection-2034-2025-10-30_en" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">transport.ec.europa.eu/news-ev</span><span class="invisible">ents/news/commission-adopts-plan-complete-madrid-lisbon-high-speed-connection-2034-2025-10-30_en</span></a></p>
