Some people on the #fediverse are all about having their hermit kingdom - apparently.
When I'm talking #attentioneconomy and #monetization it sets a few of you off, because you can't see a middleway or compromise in how you want things to be done.
With constant prodding, it seems apparent that the only want here is not to liberate people from the major platforms, but to form a walled garden that suits your taste - and your taste alone - like filter lists don't exist.
It's the #MeVerse.
We have to #reset the system and the only way to do that is to introduce new systems that deals with the problem of centralized ownership, all the -opolies and the resulting #oligarchy.
We have to #decentralize #monetization (no, not with crypto - go away with your globalist currency). It's a "if you build it, they will come" situation - and those who first build it will be legendary. This I promise you.
#Monetization is a double edged sword and anyone who disagrees with that must counter this: that which is #unethical is #lucrative.
Let me repeat.
That which is unethical is lucrative.
The #liberals and #conservatives of the west has doped up our brains on delusions of grandeur (mass wealth accumulation) to the point where we stopped caring how we became wealthy.
Here's a hint: it wasn't #RuggedIndividualism, but pure exploitation - in the worst ways.
That's now a #market #precedent.
When it comes to the #fediverse and #monetization you either let the user directly monetize their profiles - or let the platform deal with payment.
As a precedent, the user must come first, setting a baseline where the #ContentCreator is the sole beneficiary - but also solely responsible for receiving payments.
After that has been normalized we can start talking about how monetization should work platform-wide, for instance with #PlatformTax or #comissions.
But the user comes first.
@dansup we need #decentralized #monetization on #pixelfed and #loops stat, because we need that exodus to go even harder.
Oh, and all you anti-monetization folks: shut it. You're literally not helping, you selfish bastards.
We WANT small or one-person businesses to jump ship. We WANT people to monetize their #fediverse platforms.
We WANT #exodus.
I'm actually kind of frustrated.
Once more we see a #socialmedia exodus and not a single one of the fun content creators I love from say #Instagram make their way over to #Mastodon, #Pixelfeed or #Loops. Why?
BECAUSE NO DIRECT #MONETIZATION!
Do you understand what weeks or months of labor looks like? If no #ad revenue, if no #superchat, if no #donate button, then why even make the effort?!
The #fediverse needs to grow up and carve out direct paths to monetization.
#Decentralize the bag!
I realize I've been trying to explain things the wrong way. Integrating #monetization into the #fediverse is a matter of #UX as well as #commerce.
Let the user identify themselves through national ID (to prevent fraud), enable public revenue sharing between the user and platform, allow the user to decide payment method and lower the barrier for all.
I believe this would be the slingshot that could hit the goliaths #Google and #Meta straight in their eye.
Q1: Do you think a world would work where everything necessary (basic supplies, care & services) and easily reproducible (digital goods, knowledge, information) was free for everybody - including not paying with data or through ads?
