Recently picked up this system for my obsidian daily notes. It lets me create a captains log where I drop things in my daily note with an in-line property that will pull that content into another "log" file, so I don't have to worry about leaving the page or copy pasting things from my daily journal into the places it's "supposed" to go. For example, i can talk about gaming, research, etc. with a time stamp throughout the day, then I gave a game log file that queries for those mentions and puts it all together, organized by the date. This system is something I really liked when I was using Futureland journals for microjournaling. I considered if I could just do this in Obsidian bases (their equivalent of notion table feature) because people will use that to display the summary line of each of their journal entries for a quick view, but bases doesn't support in-line properties and it likely would get complicated if you query a property more than once in the same file. I also wouldn't recommend using this method for anything long-form.

This is the guide I followed:

Obsidian and Daily Notes - The Devil Sounds Like Smoke and Honey
The Devil Sounds Like Smoke and HoneyObsidian and Daily Notes - The Devil Sounds Like Smoke and HoneyI love Obsidian• It’s a powerful notetaking app, with crossplatform support working on PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. • It stores all of the notes as markdown text files....

I'm looking for an #alternative to #Notion, which is the last US platform I use exclusively in its segment. The alternative does not need to provide all the features of Notion right now.

Core requirements: Joint editing of shared (text) content (including individual pages for individual users), E2E encryption, GDPR compliance, web interface (plus native iOS and Android app if possible) — and open source would be super nice to have

/cc @Mela , @ton

My notes are a mess. I have half in #Notion and half in #Obsidian. I want to make a personal wiki/garden for all my deep dives and info collecting but I can't commit to one platform.

I love Obsidian and its respect for my writing files. Notion has all the shiny features but those fuckers love the typical SaaS lock-in approach.

What to do

looking for some #Logseq alternatives. am a (mostly) happy Logseq user, but there are a few friction points and i’d be willing to consider something new.

looking for something that is…

  • block based (goes for editing, tagging, embedding, transcluding, etc)
  • a not awful mobile experience (i don't do a ton of entry on mobile, but i do like to reference things from time to time)
  • offline capable (i can deal if something is cloud based if it's e2ee and available offline, online-only tools are a non-starter)
  • no AI crap (or at least be easy to turn off, and not a core/integral part of the thing)

stuff i've tried: Obsidian, Anytype (though this was a while ago, admittedly), Craft, Notion, DEVONthink

boosts appreciated!

I documented my flow and tooling for how I write and publish blog posts right now.

I use #Notion as my CMS and #Eleventy (❤️) as my static site generator and I've written custom CLI tools with Node to integrate the two.

My tooling has been built one small piece at a time over the past 7 years.

@leoscarin I am so proud of you, son ❤️

I am so glad that constantly talking about @yunohost pays off eheheh 🎉

It really depends on your needs… For sure going to the Apps Catalog is helpful to get an idea of the most popular and best supported apps.

  • #Nextcloud gives you a cloud suite providing almost any essential service you might need.
  • I haven’t tested #AppFlowy yet, but it would probably be something you’d enjoy exploring as a #Notion alternative.
  • #Paperless is awesome for handling all your docs super efficiently
  • I use @readeck a lot, and it's very nice, even if it has a lot of room for improvement
  • Tons of people are migrating to #Ghost
  • Don’t abandon our beloved Pan.rent, but you could test @gotosocial, it's very nifty and well built!
  • changedetection.io is SUPER USEFUL
  • I use both #Wallos and #Actual to manage my finances, but it’s still going very poorly (pardon my joke 🫣)

I have been promoting, using, and translating #YunoHost in Italian for almlost five years (🤯), maybe other people who are new could help you more. @_elena’s self-hosting log can be of inspiration!
