The city of Rafah was built over 3,300 years ago. The first recorded mention of it was in 1,303 BC. It was the first stop on Pharoah Shoshenq's campaign to the Levant in 925 BC.

Rafah had a long and beautiful history of artists and poets and historians and mathematicians.

My family were there when the Romans came, they were there when the Ottomans came, and when the various warlords that swept up and down the Spice and Silk Road.

27 members of my family have been murdered by Israel. No Hamas. All Christians.

In 77 years, this is what European settlers have done to a culture that predates most modern languages.

And protesting it is what is why people are being pulled off the streets by ICE.

Who's the real terrorist here?

(This article, not written by me, uses rhetoric which is stronger than I tend to use because I try to remain diplomatic. However, at this point, how can we look at Rafah and not wail to the heavens?)

Israeli forces have destroyed more than 90 percent of the homes in Rafah governorate – more than 20,000 buildings containing more than 50,000 housing units – as well as destroying 22 of the 24 water wells, more than 85 percent of the sewage network, and eight schools and educational institutions. 12 medical centres are now completely out of service with the maternity hospital and the Indonesian Hospital destroyed.

The #Gaza paramedic killings: a visual timeline

23 March
At 4.20am, a Red Crescent ambulance on its way to collect people injured by an airstrike in #Rafah comes under Israeli fire in Hashashin. Two paramedics are killed.
A survivor, Munther Abed, is detained and interrogated. A few hours later, a convoy including ambulances, a fire truck, health ministry vehicles and a #UN car is dispatched to recover the bodies of the two paramedics. It also comes under fire. Two #health ministry vehicles drive away but contact is lost with the rest of the convoy. Two ambulances sent from Rafah also disappear.

30 March
Ocha officials and Red Crescent workers return to the site and find the bodies of eight #RedCrescent workers, the five other civil defence responders and one UN staff member buried in a mass grave. A ninth Red Crescent worker remains unaccounted for.

"On March 30, the bodies of over a dozen Palestinian first responders were found in a mass grave in the southern city of #Rafah. In a war already defined as one of the deadliest attacks on journalists & aid workers in history, the massacre sent shockwaves across #Gaza. Rescue crews discovered the bodies of 13 Palestinian paramedics [...] along with 1 #UnitedNations staffer."

"La ciudad de Rafah ya no existe. Ha quedado reducida a escombros por una colonia de colonos establecida hace apenas 77 años. Todos los edificios históricos, los sitios arqueológicos, los museos, las viviendas modernas, la infraestructura civil, las tiendas, los cafés, los restaurantes, los hospitales, las escuelas y las universidades, todos los hermosos lugares que albergaban, tantos recuerdos, han desaparecido.

New video evidence disputes Israeli army's account of medic killings

Footage shows rescue workers, with ambulance lights on, killed in barrage of #Israeli gunfire

"New video evidence relating to the killing of 15 #Palestinian rescue workers by Israeli forces has emerged, contradicting the Israeli account of the attack on a medical convoy in #Rafah last week.

The footage, which was retrieved from a phone belonging to one of the medics who was killed, shows the Israeli army attacking clearly marked #RedCrescent ambulances that had their emergency signal lights on, and emergency medical workers wearing reflective vests."

Kitzler.

🔵 UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of #humanrights in #palestine, Francesca Albanese, said that the evidence of the killing of paramedics in #rafah has been hidden, and that the ISR army faces no restrictions or controls on the killings.

She added: "Western leaders claim to protecting civilians, while rolling out the red carpet for PM Netanyahu."
