Let's see... my #folklore #translation plans for the next few months are:

April: Tales from "Deutsche Sagen" by the Brothers Grimm
May: Snakes
June: Tales from the region where I am doing my vacation (#Schleswig in this case)
July: Another animal-themed month - I am dithering between "rodents", "insects and spiders", "wild animals", and "fish". Does anyone have any preferences?
August: Dunni yet. Maybe some treasure tales again? Or Ultraterrestrial Venetians? Or Fortean Weirdness?

I do want to do a monster-themed month, but that should wait for the darker months...

Over the past few days, I "channeled" my inner nerd into building an automated radiation detection system using open-source tools.

The device combines an ESP32 running #ESPHome for sensor data collection, my #HomeAssistant for centralized smart home integration, and #NodeRED for automating hourly Fediverse updates via a bot account

@Radiation_SL (since this Geiger counter is located in northern Germany ( #Schleswig )

Technical Breakdown:

Sensor: Radiation D-v1.1 (CAJOE) - radiation detector

Connectivity: ESP32 transmits via Wi-Fi to Home Assistant

Case: #3dPrinting the case (photo) - base is black and the lid is blue and shows the logo of "Fallout" (pc game/ TV series)

Automation: Node-RED flow formats data into ActivityPub messages

Decentralized Sharing: Posts include μSv/h readings

While this started as a hardware tinkering project, recent global events — nuclear rhetoric in conflict zones, aging power plants, and insufficient transparency in environmental monitoring — made me realize decentralized citizen science could play a crucial role.

Open-source tools eliminate single points of failure, and Fediverse integration ensures censorship-resistant data sharing.

In Flensburg I already have found some Meshtastic nodes. Today I have been in Schleswig and I took my Heltec v3.

Unfortunately I didn't find any nodes, maybe try some higher place next time. But the weather was fine and the view was great.

Some duck came by, probably he thought we want to feed him.

Ich weiss nicht, ob sich das lohnt, aber wir haben hier aus traurigen Gründen noch reichlich (ca. 12-15KG) Berkel #Chinchilla Gold Kräuter Pellets übrig und ebenfalls ca. ~15KG Chinchilla Badesand (der Gute - kein mistiger Quarzsand)

Beides trocken gelagert in Futtertonne bzw. großem Vorratseimer. Beides erst ende letzten bzw Anfang dieses Jahres gekauft.

Falls sich das wer kostenlos bei uns in #Schleswig abholen möchte, dann darf sich diese Person herzlich gerne bei uns melden.
