The #IIDF admitted carrying out the attack, claiming Sharif was the leader of a Hamas cell responsible for rocket attacks against #Israel – an allegation that Al Jazeera and Sharif had previously dismissed as baseless.

It was the first time during the war that Israel’s military has swiftly claimed responsibility after a journalist was killed in a strike.

More than a hundred UK-based #Israelis and allies led by the grassroots activist group Mi-neged staged a protest outside the Foreign Office on Thursday evening, calling for the UK to impose immediate sanctions on #Israel and end the war in #Gaza.

As civil servants and politicians left the Cabinet Office after work, 98 demonstrators raised 98 red and black globes and a large sign that read: “You let Israel murder 98 today. Each person is a world.” Other signs read “Israelis against genocide” and “stop arming Israel”.

The statement did not use the term "occupation," rather using the term "takeover," due to legal ramifications for the civilian population, Ynet reported.

The Security Cabinet also adopted five principles for ending the war, namely disarming #Hamas, returning all hostages, both living and murdered, demilitarizing the #Gaza Strip, #Israel maintaining security control over the Gaza Strip, and the existence of civilian government that is not controlled by either Hamas or the #PalestinianAuthority

Seen from the air, Gaza looks like the ruins of an ancient civilisation, brought to light after centuries of darkness. A patchwork of concrete shapes and shattered walls, neighbourhoods scattered with craters, rubble and roads that lead nowhere. The remnants of cities wiped out.

But here, there has been no natural disaster and no slow passage of time.

#Gaza was a bustling, living place until less than two years ago, for all the challenges its residents endured even then. Its markets were crowded, its streets were full of children. That Gaza is gone – not buried under volcanic ash, not erased by history, but razed by an #Israeli military campaign...

No one can delete the massacres, the death traps disguised as aid centers. No one can erase the images of bodies in pieces, of blood soaked into the floor, of children crushed beneath rubble, of injured and amputated people, of infants and fetuses killed in their mothers’ wombs, of starved people suffering from malnutrition. No one can make us forget the taste of nothing during starvation and the feeling of helplessness in front of seeing our futures destroyed.
