Claiming to bargain, while refusing to bargain in good faith. Refusing to budge when your bad faith offer is overwhelmingly rejected time and again, is not negotiating.

Canada Post continues to deflect and delay without presenting any viable offer to the table.

'While Canada Post says it needs to act with urgency, the Corporation seems to forget that it was its side that delayed negotiations for 2 months by requesting a forced vote, and this after the Government paused our legal strike for 6 months.

Canada Post suggested its “best and final offers” reflected the “objective findings” of the Industrial Inquiry Commission. But Canada Post failed to acknowledge that its offers just didn’t cut it: they were overwhelmingly rejected by members.'

First Union Contract for the Alberni Golf Club groundskeepers. They had a 10 day strike.

"“I’ve been working here for 38 years,” said Ak Manhas, a groundskeeper. “I was only getting 17.5 days of vacation pay a year and no benefits. Now thanks to the union I get six weeks’ vacation pay and benefits, which will finally give me more time to spend with my wife and kids and pay for medical bills.””

Today in Labor History August 12, 1936: The First International Brigades arrived in Spain to fight against Franco. Organized by the Communist International, between 40,000 and 60,000 men and women from around the world fought on the Republican side against the fascists. 10,000 of them died. Thousands more international activists joined anti-Stalinist forces, like the socialist POUM, or anarchist groups, like the FAI, CNT and the Durruti Column. Americans defied federal law to participate in the International Brigade, as members of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. Famous Lincoln participants included Avant Garde composer Conlon Nancarrow, labor organizer Delmer Berg, scifi author Theodore Cogswell, novelist William Herrick. The Tom Mooney Company, named for San Francisco labor organizer, Tom Mooney, who was wrongly imprisoned for the WWI Preparedness Day bombing, was commanded by African American labor organizer Oliver Law, the first African-American to command an integrated American military unit. Many African-Americans joined the anti-franco forces. Langston Hughes, who was writing for the Baltimore Afro-American, said: "Give Franco a hood, and he would be a member of the Ku Klux Klan." There was also a George Washington Battlian, and a John Brown battery. Once the U.S. entered World War II, the FBI recommended that none of the veterans of the Spanish war against fascism be given any promotions within the U.S. military, to prevent the “rise of communists” in their ranks. The House UnAmerican Activities Committee (HUAC) blacklisted all American veterans of the Spanish war.

One employee at #USCIS said morale was already low at his workplace, but the #union decision drove it lower. He said he complained to his family, many of whom are former #government union members. The advice he got back, he said, was to move on and find a job outside of government.

“I feel like the rug just got pulled from under us,” the employee said. “I joined USCIS & the union for #WorkersRights, but this administration wants to erode all that.”

In interviews, several #FederalWorkers lamented the curtailing of #union activities — tying it to a broader erosion of #ChecksAndBalances in American #democracy — & predicted additional agreement cancellations would follow. Most spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.

The loss of union protections is “just another way to make life miserable for the employees who are left,” said a #FEMA staff member.

…The moves to terminate #union #contracts, which affect thousands of federal employees, come after the 9th Circuit…this month lifted a preliminary injunction blocking #Trump’s #ExecutiveOrder.
“Make no mistake, this move isn’t about government efficiency or national security. It’s about silencing #workers & clearing the way for more #deregulation,” said Justin Chen, president of American Federation of Government Employees Council 238, which represents >8k #EPA workers nationally, in a statement…

#FEMA & at least 3 other #FederalAgencies have canceled their #contracts with #unions to comply with #Trump’s #ExecutiveOrder stripping many federal #workers of union protections….

On Friday, FEMA’s acting administrator David Richardson sent a memo to American Federation of Government Employees Local 4060, the #union representing the agency, saying that FEMA’s #CollectiveBargaining agreement had been terminated, ending a nearly 10-year #contract.

Happening now! WOW what an incredible show of solidarity with flight attendants fighting for a fair deal at YVR and across the country. I stand shoulder to shoulder with them and call on the Liberal Government to fix the labour code and end unpaid work. It’s about #Values. It’s time to show support vs just talk about it. #fediverse #canpoli #cdnpoli #politics

I'm extremely uneasy about this tactic of public sector employers, Federally (ie, Canada Post) and Provincially, to demand a forced vote through the government to bypass collective bargaining rights.

Workers, you won't receive a fair contract without power in collective bargaining. Don't allow employers to kill your collective rights which were so hard-won! You are vulnerable on your own.
