“Light and Dark” — A canyon wall lit by reflected sunlight is seen through a dark section of canyon narrows, Death Valley.
Having photographed in the red rock canyons of Utah, I suspect that I have a bias toward that sort of beautiful, warm-toned landscape. In Death Valley I often look for, and enjoy finding, canyons with similar smooth surfaces… though that Utah red rock isn’t something you’ll see very much here. That large boulder on the left is balanced on a tiny base, but it probably won't tumble down into the canyon below for another thousand years or more. It is, however, a little sketchy feeling walking past it. This structure is ~800 years old.
A stormy day over the canyon! It was too hard to capture in a wide-angle view, but there were many thin waterfalls pouring off the rimrock into the canyon. Rain in canyon country is always spectacular!
