This month, <a href="https://fedi.copyleft.org/tags/GPLv2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GPLv2</span></a> turned 34 years old. These are both great licenses and we love them. And I'd also prefer that we didn't pander to corporate interests by using 'open source' over free or <a href="https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/libre" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>libre</span></a> software. I'm definitely of the <a href="https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/copyleft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>copyleft</span></a> persuasion. To my mind, the only purpose of 'weak' open source licenses is to be easily exploitable by proprietary (corporate) interests. But, my ultimate goal is for any software not implementing *open standards* to be effectively eliminated by regulators. Let's ditch proprietary.</p>
