#GoodMorning! I’ve been hopeful about going #cycling next week, but yesterday has made me doubt it…

My broken rib has become become uncomfortable again after carrying a mildly heavy backpack and an 8kg kid…

I need an x-ray to check how it’s healing…

When I started cycling today the weather was warm - up to 37 C in the vineyards. The grass snake (Natrix natrix) I spotted by the side of the road likely enjoyed the hot weather more than I, but it's a wonder that it was still well and alive. I convinced it that it's better to get back into the grass.

Question for #cycling folks. What's the deal with Presta type tire valves?

I bought one by accident and decided to just go ahead and use it. Works fine but seems very fiddly and harder to use than the more common variants. Is there some advantage that I've missed?

In total we cycled 1555km over 19 full days of cycling, with 19200 meters of uphill.

Spent 17 nights in camping places, 3 in hotels and unfortunately just one wildcamping.

The weather was just what we expected with the exception of the first week, where the heatwave pushed us a bit to our limits.

The highlights of the trip were the Atlantic coast in the Basque country, some sections of the V81 cycling route, Montpellier and Provence.

That's the bike I ride when I'm in my home town, leaning against a wall at the part of the oldest cemetery, where some 19th century headstones were preserved.

That bike is quite special: GDR made tires, a road bike chain wheel and crank set, 2-speed hub. I made it when I was a teenager, about twice as many decades ago than I can hope to see.

It still serves me well.

One of my huge reasons for cycling is homemade flapjacks. I love the boring oats/sugar/butter variety but I also make hoopy variations.

Christmas Cake - with mixed dried fruit, citrus peel, and spices - amazing

Tahini and Balsamic Vinegar - good but sticky

Olive and Sun-dried tomato - great

Anchovy and Garlic - this was horrible

Dark Chocolate, agave, coconut and chilli - very good but doesn't hold together very well
