Thor A. Hopland<p>At the end of the day <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/DigitalSovreignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DigitalSovreignty</span></a> is downplayed because people are generally <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/oppertunists" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>oppertunists</span></a>, whether they know it - or not. They&#39;ll demoralize and denigrate people from a gutteral level.</p><p>I&#39;m not saying I&#39;m exempt &quot;by default&quot;. We&#39;re all human. But ridding ourselves of <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/material" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>material</span></a> concerns when dealing with public infrastructure is paramount to our interests as <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/democracies" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>democracies</span></a>, believers in <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/humanrights" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>humanrights</span></a> and the <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/decentralizationprinciple" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>decentralizationprinciple</span></a>.</p>
Thor A. Hopland<p><a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/DigitalSovreignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DigitalSovreignty</span></a> is not a &quot;nice to have&quot;. It&#39;s not &quot;a little treat&quot;. It is of dire necessity to ensure the safety and security of people.</p><p>Your country has no power to judicially deal with foreign entities, so once that data and processing goes over the border, your rights are forfeit.</p><p>Believing a company outside of said country won&#39;t harvest and sell your data because you pay them a subscription fee is naive.</p><p>Believing &quot;you&#39;ve got nothing to hide&quot; makes no sense if you&#39;re Anne Frank.</p>
Thor A. Hopland<p>I have figured out that the only way I can actually move forward with the <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>fediverse</span></a> and <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/digitalsovreignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>digitalsovreignty</span></a> in <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Norway" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Norway</span></a> is to write about it.</p><p>That is, I am considering making a guide called &quot; The accelerationist guide to digital sovreignty&quot; - in <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Norwegian" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Norwegian</span></a> of course, and then in <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/English" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>English</span></a>.</p><p>I think the drip feed of changes that&#39;s been going on and that is supposedly &quot;the best approach&quot; is lowballing the situation. The problem is real big, and I feel like I&#39;m the only one who takes it seriously.</p>
Thor A. Hopland<p>In the end, no, your <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/closetserver" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>closetserver</span></a> or <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/VPS" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>VPS</span></a> is not enough. Your <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/managedhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>managedhosting</span></a> solution is not enough. The world 🌍 runs on <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/cloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>cloud</span></a> infra and that&#39;s not what&#39;s bad.</p><p>What&#39;s bad is how it&#39;s been implemented, how it&#39;s a threat to <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>privacy</span></a>, how it&#39;s a threat to <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/DigitalSovreignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DigitalSovreignty</span></a>, as well as <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/wellfare" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wellfare</span></a> AND <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/freemarket" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>freemarket</span></a> - at the same time!</p><p>So what do you do? Throw the baby out with the bathwater, or do you question the actual hardware infra, as well as the legal industrial precedents set?</p>
Thor A. Hopland<p><a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/DigitalSovreignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DigitalSovreignty</span></a> should also entail the valuation of data as a form of currency and that <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/US" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>US</span></a> interests have devalued the data of countries around the world by making it as cheap as possible. It&#39;s a matter of supply and demand.</p><p>In this vein <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/DataBrokers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DataBrokers</span></a> can be considered a national threat, because what they do is devalue citizens data by feeding it into various tracking and learning models.</p><p>I&#39;m saying we&#39;ve been bamboozled, hoodwinked, raked over the coals, the yanks got us good.</p><p>Part 2/</p>
Thor A. Hopland<p>The only thing that irritates me about this is that it wasn&#39;t built in <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Europe" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Europe</span></a>.</p><p>Actually, scratch that. I am both saddened and angered that <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Equinor" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Equinor</span></a> isn&#39;t dumping a couple of hundred millions into <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/NordicSemiconductor" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>NordicSemiconductor</span></a> to set up <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/RISCV" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RISCV</span></a> prefabs so we can make our own SoC&#39;s - and I mean for workstation and server grade SoC&#39;s, not just embedded controllers.</p><p><a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/ARM" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>ARM</span></a> is owned by ARM Holding and is therefore outside the scope of <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/DigitalSovreignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DigitalSovreignty</span></a>.</p><p>Milk-V Jupiter RISC-V PC Build<br /><a href="https://youtube.com/watch?v=LX9Pz1TmEww&amp;si=Eo4fkMO4aIf_Nk-6" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=LX9Pz1TmEw</span><span class="invisible">w&amp;si=Eo4fkMO4aIf_Nk-6</span></a></p>
Thor A. Hopland<p>Why is <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/CI" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CI</span></a> <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/CD" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>CD</span></a> excluded from the <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/DigitalSovreignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DigitalSovreignty</span></a> conversation? It shouldn&#39;t be, because <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/GitHub" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GitHub</span></a> should not be the end-all, be-all of software building, testing and even packaging. There should be local alternatives.</p>
