why I like copying pictures: if they don't look alike (which initially comes as a feeling, not as an observation), I can watch closer and find out which lines/shapes/shadows are different, and modify my drawing accordingly. it *always* works, it *always* leads to a more accurate drawing. I can even find out which (sometimes massive!) mismatches between picture and drawing are considered irrelevant for the resemblance (and I stay in the realm of realistic resemblance, not caricature)
why I don't benefit from other activities when they don't converge like this: because I am forced to multiply my attempts, with the hope they will converge, but no way to guess the effect of my action. When I have a limited amount of spoons I can't afford to gamble like that
