Okay #Makers, please be gentle...

I'm about to dip my toes in to 3D printing (lets assume a Bambu Lab A1 mini or very similar...), and I'm looking for some advice for the greenest of greens.

What software is well regarded, and has entry level tutorials for Linux and Windows, for:
1) Taking a thingiverse item and modifying it (tweaking dimensions mostly),

2) Doing basic geometric shapes from scratch.

Boosts appreciated.
