Hannah Howe<p>What to make of this film, a modern German take on the Robin Hood legend seen from Maid Marian’s point of view?</p><p>I enjoyed the forest scenes and the medieval buildings (many of these were in ruins, but that was built into the script). Also, good to see a story from Marian’s point of view. The legends were well adapted and made sense in the film’s narrative.</p><p><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Film" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Film</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Medieval" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Medieval</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/RobinHood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RobinHood</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/MaidMarian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MaidMarian</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/History" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>History</span></a></p>

Just taken (dragged?) the daughter around Wells Cathedral.

The scissor arches are just breath-taking and I really thought they were a relatively modern edition. Nope. Turns out the 1300s architects and builders were already rocking the future look. Incredible.

When the boy scouts Bergen were celebrating their 25th anniversary in 1937, where else to celebrate it than the – at the time – largest celebration venue in #Bergen, the medieval Haakon Hall.

Having stood since the 1200s, the first known use of the building was (later king) Magnus Lagabøte's wedding in 1261, the son of King Haakon IV. It went derelict, and was used as grain storage through the 1600s, before being "rediscovered" and rejuvenated in the late 1800s.

During the war, less than a decade after this picture, it was partially ruined – particularily the roof – by the explosion of the Nazi munitions ship Voorbode in 1944. After the war it was rebuilt again, and is now a tourist attraction and still used for larger celebrations in the city.

''Dans les villes européennes du début du Moyen Âge, les droits des femmes s’étendent même s’ils sont encore limités. Des cadeaux pour l’Au-delà, des corsages pour les plus pauvres ou des fonds pour la réparation de ponts : les testaments des femmes dans la France médiévale donnent un aperçu surprenant de leur quête d’indépendance''.
