Day 7 of #30dayswild

Today it just so happened that one of my favourite #public #radio programmes featured #nature , namely #sharks .

The announcer combined humour with facts, stressing that films have given sharks a bad rep (but some great music).

Oh! Just realised I'm posting this via #Megalodon app for Mastodon :)

I'd encourage you to have a listen:

《Boycott this and that company because reasons!》

Umm... Boycotts don't really work. It's not fair to block products that have value. You can't tell people what to do.

Mastodon is just full of these toxic individuals. It would be a shame for Mastodon to turn into another Twitter/X or what? 😮‍💨

Early browse of the mastosphere after a few days away and wow. Interesting people followed me, so I followed back bc their posts are interesting. Scrolling through my feed of choice (home, almost always) is packed full of interesting things, I want to boost everything but that would be annoying. Really, the quality here and the amount I learn is astounding. And no one is selling me stuff.

Thanks for having me.

#Megalodon’s body shape was closer to a lemon #shark
Shimada et al concluded, because the trunk section of Belgian specimen measured 11m, the head and tail were probably about 1.m and 3.6m long, respectively, with a total body length of 16.4m (54ft) for this particularly specimen. That means the Danish megalodon specimens could have been as long as 24.3m (80ft). As for body shape, taking new length estimates into account, #lemonshark appears to be closest modern analogue.

To tell you the truth, I can't stand Mastodon, the instance I mean. The Mods are jerks. Fortunately, the beauty of the Fediverse is that you can choose a different instance or create your very own. Also, you can use various apps to access it.

PS: Please bear in mind that the Fediverse isn't just a wannabe Facebook or Twitter. It can be anything you want it to be, including a place to host videos and photos.

This week's #NewBooks at the library: Once a year my employer has its backlist bargains sale, allowing me to scoop up some amazing books at a great discount. This year's haul was contained to How #Birds Evolved and Nature's Temples: A Natural History of Old-Growth #Forests from @princetonupress, and Big Meg: The Story of the Largest, Fiercest and Most Mysterious #Shark from Penguin Books #Books #Scicomm #Bookstodon #Evolution #Ornithology #Ecology #Trees #Megalodon #Paleontology #Palaeontology

Is there a way to not see boosts from people you follow on the feed? I keep getting fed content that are anxiety and rage inducing. I don't want to unfollow my follows as they're generally lovely people. Also, my filters don't seem to work on boosts?

Ps: I use #Megalodon

Update: Thank you, everyone! Thanks to your tips I found the controls to hide the boosts. It was hidden in some tab and I had to scroll down. Thing is, I am pretty sure I did this in the past and somehow it got unchecked...
