When visiting old places
and feeling the change in oneself,
seeing the roads you have travelled
emotions that came, and have gone
some have stayed and withered.
So much has changed
in such a a short time.
Pain gave birth to happiness,
loneliness to togetherness.
. . .
Blue hues of your caresses
that wrapped my sorrows
and hid my tears,
gave solace in time
of my greatest need
are now silent and still.
No more whispers from the deep,
or murmuring of the pine trees.
Nothing is pulling me from the shore
to search for promises
made a long time ago.
I found my anchor,
my northern star
I feel the world
with an altered heart.
Blue hues of your waters,
the salt and the sun -
a begining, and an end
of a life that once was.

Super interesting article on research in to the sense of smell from Quanta Magazine:
Smell is strongly linked to memory, and we may not even consciously notice the memory being created, but may be triggered later with that scent.
Very cool!
One time, back when I was studying at the college of art and design, I had a long day at school. It was getting on in the evening, and someone came up to me to let me know the seat of my pants was ripped. I reached around only to find out that my entire ass was on display. I was wearing a thong.
I shouted, "Oh my god!" And heard peals of laughter erupt all over the school.
My ass had been on full display for hours and hours.
It's not like everyone there hadn't already seen my ass before. I'd been one of the regular figure models for drawing class for years. But jeeze... #memories #ass
Me gustó mucho el álbum nuevo de Lorde! Y me retrotrajo a uno de mis eventos canónicos: llorar en la lluvia cantando ribs allá por el Primavera Sound 2022 #memories

Driving through #Portland #Oregon on this blue-sky day, and I can see all three #mountains: Mt. St. Helens (which I saw erupt), Mt. Adams (which I slid down from the top on a black garbage bag, with an ice ax brake ), and Mt. Hood (which I tubed off of into the parking lot
).
Three years ago my neighbor-dads and I did a midsummer ski trip to Slettinden, a mountain we looked at every day from our rekkehus in Tromsø.
After a lot of hiking and navigating some complex steep terrain we felt we had done enough with just 100m to the top. And it was midnight, and we all had families to wake up to in just a few hours...
We did have a huge amount of fun and some wild skiing, picking tiny lines way further down than we thought we would get..
Completely unexpectedly, we’ve ended up listening to Front 242’s _Front by Front_ after dinner. God, it’s been ages. Plex is feeding me @nedraggett’s excellent summary of it, too. Glorious.
The #Brain stores #Memories primarily by strengthening or weakening the connections between neurons, called #Synapses.
This process, known as synaptic plasticity, allows neural circuits to be physically reshaped, forming robust pathways that encode learned information.

With this heat and the sound of cicadas outside the window, I can't help but think of this masterpiece by two great artists. Evocative. Beautiful. Timeless.
