Just finished Anna Funder's latest book, Wifedom - about the way in which George Orwell's wife Eileen has been minimised and hidden by Orwell's biographers, though she had a great influence on his life and work. Interesting mix of straightforward reportage and fictionalised sequences based on truth. Good read.
Is there no more double plus good illustration of #Orwell's concept of #DoubleThink as the #MAGA Right's simultaneous acceptance of two mutually exclusive explanations why Donald Trump did *not* sign the infamous Jeffrey Epstein Birthday Card:
1) The scrawl looks nothing like Trump's signature,

Die EU will es Chat- und Messenger-Providern vorschreiben, private Chats, Nachrichten und E-Mails massenhaft, anlass- und unterschiedslos auf verdächtige Inhalte durchsuchen!
Für den 14. Oktober ist die finale Abstimmung über die Einführung der Chat-Kontrolle durch die Innenminister:innen der Europäischen Union angesetzt.
Auch wenn es dann bis zur konkreten Umsetzung noch etwas dauert und eines konkreten Rechtsaktes bedarf, sollte dafür gekämpft werden, dass am 14.10.2025 keine Mehrheit zustande kommt.
Wird der EU-Plan umgesetzt, wird es keine unüberwachte Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung mehr geben (Signal hat schon angekündigt, sich dann umgehend aus der EU zurück zu ziehen).
Auch wenn die Einführung vordergründig mit dem Kampf gegen Kinderpornografie begründet wird, geht es doch ersichtlich um den Ausbau eines rechten, repressiven Systems. Die politische Rechte ist auf dem Vormarsch, geplant ist die technische Totalüberwachung und damit Kontrolle nach dem Vorbild Chinas. Nur eben im Dienste rechter und rechtsextremer Regierungen.
