Today was a cold sunny day and the price of electricity dropped below €-200/MWh (that's right, people were paid to consume electricity today). This indicates a much larger energy supply than demand on the grid. We didn't contribute to it at all. Our rooftop solar system produced 52.8 kWh and only 0.29 kWh went to the grid.
Last May we consumed 60% of our total electricity production. Since buying an #EV it's been over 90%.

I was wondering how a #blackout like the one in #Spain would affect us. The last time the house battery was completely drained was five days ago. The only appliance in the house that is not backed up is the heat pump. Without the heat pump running, the #photovoltaic system would never run out of energy. But we'd have to heat bathing water with a kettle. I'm not sure how backed up O2's infrastructure is, but we'd probably lose the Internet connection as well. Otherwise, we'd probably survive a multi-day outage just fine at this time of the year. In the winter, it'd be a lot harder.

They plan to build a large photovoltaic park in one of Europe's biodiversity hotspots: the Eastern Rhodopes in Bulgaria. The site is almost under one of the few breeding colonies of Griffon vultures in the Balkan. Though electricity is a necessity, this is not the best place to build a solar park.
