Q1: Good evening! Can you please introduce yourself and what you you would like to be making next week?

My first time doing this, so I hope I do it right
A1: I'm Nora and I'll be tinkering around with #quilting and also setting up a couple of #raspberrypi projects, a weather display unit, and a GROW hat to help remind me to water my houseplants - that one's almost ready!

“Seven years ago, EBEN UPTON created the first #RaspberryPi. As Upton told IEEE Spectrum in our March 2015 cover story, the Pi was inspired in part by his childhood experiments with a #BBCMicro home computer: He wanted modern kids to have a simple machine that allowed for similar experimentation. Since then, the Pi has exploded in popularity, and the fourth major revision of the Pi was released in June.”
@swelljoe A similar story by #EbenUpton. <https://spectrum.ieee.org/eben-upton-on-the-raspberry-pis-industrial-crossover-and-why-there-will-never-be-a-pi-9> @mos_8502 @cstross
Argon are well known for their high-quality Raspberry Pi cases and accessories. Now they're making a 14-inch laptop powered by a Compute Module 5.

I built a case for my classic Macintosh support Pi. It holds a Pi Zero, a WaveShare Ethernet/USB hat, and a Tash Talk 2 hat for LocalTalk.

It would also be a more flexible option not just for "dumb #terminals" like a VT320 or VT525, thus desireable for a lot of #legacy / #embedded setup and allow for integrating like a #serial #console into a "Managment LAN" (which should be #airgapped!)…
So yeah, a #LAN232 / #Ethernet232 would be kinda cool, even if it's just a #PiZero 1.3 with a USB Serial & Ethernet Chip in a case.

I've also done a side quest these last few days exploring #Debian on the #RaspberryPi Model B (as it is one of the few Linux distros still supporting the armhf architecture).
The performance is quite amazing for the device; I can do pretty much anything in the console + tmux, and RAM usage will barely go over 100MB. That leaves me with over 300 MB RAM to spare!!
I then tried to launch X11 and a Window Manager for a final stretch, but sadly it won't run. I don't think OOM is the culprit here, but the screen goes dark and it won't respond anymore (needs power cycle) despite my user being added to both the input and video groups, and the framebuffer xorg driver being installed. I'd actually appreciate some suggestions on getting around this to reeeeally stress test this brave lil boi.
Today’s mission accomplished. Pirate radio from Pimoroni circa 2018 repurposed to play Swift bird calls in the mornings and evenings. I’ve learned some crontab tricks to get the python script to run and stop at scheduled times. Impressed the hardware works on a modern install of Pi OS Buster lite after all these years. Now to put up the nest boxes and mount this outside. #birds #nature #RaspberryPi #MakerMonday
Sitting in public transit yesterday, I dug out my #FoldableKeyboard to my lap, paired it with my #Fairphone, opened a terminal command line app #Termux, connected to my #RaspberryPi #SelfHosting #HomeServer and updated its software remotely on the go. All #SecondHand #Reused #Refurbished #Computers & #Electronics.
No real need for the #Portable keyboard nor remote access here, just felt like trying it out for fun, and for a brief moment, it felt like I was leading a #Solarpunk lifestyle.
