Bootc as a project is one with tons of promise and lots of community support. It's what is powering the next generation of Atomic Desktops, CoreOS, and Fedora IoT, not to mention all of the work that @UniversalBlue has done to show off everything that can be done today.

If you want to follow bootc more closely, regular updates from Fedora's end are shared here. :)

I’ve personally seen this with Ultimate Chicken Horse on Bazzite, but someone is reporting the same thing with Museum of All Things from Flathub:

This is why we recommend or a variant in 2025. Ubuntu has become this massive Ship of Thesius, where planks and nails are flying off the thing.

Also Snaps... Snaps is an attempt at creating vendor lock-in on Linux, which is an evil onto itself (even though I full heartedly support , largely because can load third party repos).

The project brought us the project, which is an immutable operating system for ordinary users, which is cool. It is the basis of many new immutable distros.

But, if for some reason you require a / base, then look no further than . With AptX you can install RPM packages if necessary as well, as a toolbox/distrobox alternative... or wrapper?

I might need to test it myself...

@ghastrum the ultimate result being a decoupling of system and user, the Linux way, instead of the POSIX way. We just add an immutable system, a bunch of virtual envs and call it a day.

Intrinsically, this has become the basis of and you can find a similar approach by , albeit through an Ubuntu base using their own immutable system, and is immutable as well.

I think this is the future of the desktop, because it gives the user safety and options at the same time.
