Taylor Parizo<p>Spent my Friday evening at Micro Center and it was a night well spent. The NAS is about to get a massive overhaul once my case arrives. Going with the Fractal Design Define 7 XL to fit numerous drives and a GTX 1070 for Plex transcoding. </p><p>Oh and Unraid to manage it all. <br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/nas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nas</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a></p>
Eric The IT Guy<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.undrground.org/@gangrif" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>gangrif</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@almalinux" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>almalinux</span></a></span> I ran <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RHEL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RHEL</span></a> 9 that way for several years before switching to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a>. I’d love to go back to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ansible" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ansible</span></a> running everything. But there’s something tempting about a full blown hypervisor under the hood that appeals to me.</p>
Andreas Gohr<p>let me extend this question to <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/truenas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>truenas</span></a> (I accidentally mixed it up in my head with <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a>). so why go with truenas instead of just debian + zfs/btrfs?</p>
Andreas Gohr<p>more specifically, why did you pick <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a> over a <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/zfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zfs</span></a> or <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/btrfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>btrfs</span></a> solution?</p>
Andreas Gohr<p>people who recently recommended <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unraid</span></a> for a custom <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/nas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NAS</span></a>... why did you decide to use it? what's making it worth it to you?</p>
Sebin Nyshkim<p>Okay, real talk: the <a href="https://meow.social/tags/Unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unraid</span></a> "fix common problems" plugin is fucking annoying. I didn't log into my home server's WebUI for some time and it spammed like 50 notifications at me about outdated docker containers.</p><p>Yeah, thanks, I would've seen that anyways when I look at the Docker tab for that.</p><p>I thought Lime Technologies recommending having it installed would actually be helpful for some edge cases, but this is just aggravatingly hand-holdy.</p><p>Begone! <em>(uninstalls)</em></p>
Jasper Buma<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.xyz/@nextcloud" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>nextcloud</span></a></span> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> (AIO) up and running on my <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unraid</span></a> server! <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/OpenMediaVault" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenMediaVault</span></a>? <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/TrueNAS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrueNAS</span></a>? Was anderes? 🤔 <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/Unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unraid</span></a> fällt eher raus, weil das Preismodell von denen insane ist.</p><p><a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/Homeserver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Homeserver</span></a> <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/Homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Homelab</span></a> <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/Server" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Server</span></a> <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/Selfhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Selfhosting</span></a></p>
Gavin Campbell<p>My flash drive in my Unraid server was going bad so went down the road of replacing it. <br>Ordered multiple sets of different flash drives from amazon and non of them would work because they had no GUID. <br>Any Unraid recommended drives were no longer available. Eventually found an old drive that worked.<br>Unraid needs to find another way to manage their licensing.</p><p><a href="https://hometech.social/tags/Unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unraid</span></a> <a href="https://hometech.social/tags/SelfHosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SelfHosted</span></a></p>
Anders Thoresson<p>Kind of blown away. 24 hours ago I had never assembled a computer from separate parts or hosted a <a href="https://thoresson.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> server. </p><p>Now my <a href="https://thoresson.social/tags/Unraid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unraid</span></a> installation is tugging along, with my MacBook using it as a backup target, with AdGuard serving the home wifi, and remote access enabled thanks to <a href="https://thoresson.social/tags/Tailscale" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tailscale</span></a>.</p>

Xap Mapcase<p>Linux people - anyone conversant with Unraid os? Particularly 32bit version 5.0.6?
