I’ve wanted to jump ship for years and I’ve been trying to find alternatives like <a href="https://aus.social/tags/PeerTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#PeerTube</a>… the main barrier for me is the price of storage. I have over 800GB of videos on my YT channel currently, which far exceeds most of the plans on the hosting services I’ve seen. If I want to back up my current channel AND keep making videos on a hosting service, it’s not clear if I’d be able to add more storage as needed, let alone be able to afford it. And I don’t even make videos for money - I can only imagine how hard it’d be for creators who rely on videomaking to pay the bills.<a href="https://aus.social/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Google</a> knows video hosting is expensive, and that keeps content creators like me tethered to their monopoly.
