Dr. Zalka Csenge Virág<p>Alright, so:<br>The coat of arms comes from a medieval manuscript. It belongs to Sir Kay the Senechal, who is generally known as the grumpy foster brother of Arthur. I like his character a lot. He is one of the OG knights from Welsh legend. He is responsible for the mundane, day-to-day work of keeping Camelot fed and organized while everyone is off gallavanting.<br>The shield is cracked because Kay has an accident early in the legends, and walks with a limp.</p><p><a href="https://ohai.social/tags/folklore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>folklore</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/mythology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mythology</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/KingArthur" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KingArthur</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/tarot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tarot</span></a></p>
Dr. Zalka Csenge Virág<p>Made another card concept for <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/Tarotember" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tarotember</span></a>. It's based on Arthurian legend. I was going to explain it, but now I'm curious to see if anyone gets the reference without explanation 😄</p><p><a href="https://ohai.social/tags/tarot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tarot</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/Legends" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Legends</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/folklore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>folklore</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/mythology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mythology</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/medieval" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>medieval</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/image" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>image</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/KingArthur" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KingArthur</span></a></p>

Jennifer<p>The Crystal Cave came out ages ago in 1970. I remember seeing it in the library when I was a kid, but I was never really interested in the King Arthur stuff so never read it. Got the audiobook on sale last month on Chirp and it's really good, it's the King Arthur legend told through Merlin's perspective. It's making me look up maps of Wales and Cornwall! <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/Bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/Merlin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Merlin</span></a> <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/KingArthur" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KingArthur</span></a></p>
Hannah Howe<p>Researching Maid Marian in my library, I went off on a tangent and discovered this image, The Marriage of Guinevere and King Arthur by Lancelot Speed. Don’t look for historical accuracy - in his notes, Lancelot explained that he based this image on the fashions of 1460.</p><p>The picture is the frontispiece of Sir James Knowles’ The Legends of King Arthur and his Knights, originally published in 1860. My copy is a ninth edition, published 1912.</p><p><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/History" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>History</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/KingArthur" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KingArthur</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Art</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Paintings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Paintings</span></a> <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Medieval" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Medieval</span></a></p>

Bevan Thomas<p>According to legend, a herdsman stumbled on a cave in Britain in which King Arthur's warriors had been sleeping for centuries. One of the warriors opened his eyes, and asked if Arthur had returned yet. The terrified herdsman said no, so the warrior went back to sleep.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/MythologyMonday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MythologyMonday</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Mythology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mythology</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Folklore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Folklore</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Wales" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wales</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Celtic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Celtic</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Britain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Britain</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/KingArthur" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KingArthur</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Arthurian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Arthurian</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Arthuriana" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Arthuriana</span></a></p>
Khurram Wadee ✅<p>Today we went to <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/Tintagel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tintagel</span></a>, which is on the <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/NorthernCoast" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NorthernCoast</span></a> of <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/Cornwall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cornwall</span></a>. It is supposed to be the place where <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/KingArthur" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KingArthur</span></a> was conceived. The veracity of that claim is highly dubious but the rugged beauty of the coast is beyond question. It’s not too difficult to get to, being just over an hour’s drive away. Today’s walk totalled about 12 km.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/MyWork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MyWork</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/MyPhoto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MyPhoto</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/CCBYSA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CCBYSA</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/DSLR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DSLR</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/Nikon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nikon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/D7000" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>D7000</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/Spring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Spring</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.org.uk/tags/Hiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hiking</span></a></p>
