Graham DownsI speak a lot about my childhood minister, because truth be told, he was probably the most influential person in my Christian development, shaping my understanding of the Bible and God and Christianity, and love (he loved to talk about the various Greek words for "Love").This morning I find myself thinking of how he used to say that, by all accounts -- including Jesus' numerous parables beginning with "The Kingdom of Heaven is like this..." -- and contrary to popular belief, Heaven is not some glorious retirement village with puffy white clouds and cherubs playing harps.No, he said, it's clearly a place where actual, bona fide *work* happens. When your earthly journey is done, and your race is won, you're not going to your eternal retirement. You're going to begin the next phase of your journey. Of your "career", if you will. The responsibilities of this world will fade away, but you'll take on new ones.In short, you're not going to retire.
