John Wilker 👨🏽‍💻<p>Pretty stoked the pre-orders for 'Invasive Species' are really rolling in.</p><p>Best part of Pre-ordering... It's like Christmas in August. You wake and BOOM. There’s a new book for you to read on your ereader.</p><p>Or if you're impatient, you can buy direct and read it now, everyone else. </p><p>Summer's not over! Plenty of time for more reading!</p><p><a href="https://johnwilker.com/book/invasive-species/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">johnwilker.com/book/invasive-s</span><span class="invisible">pecies/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/scifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>scifi</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/scifi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>scifi@a.gup.pe</span></a></span> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> @bookstodon <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/supportcreators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>supportcreators</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/scifibooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>scifibooks</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://kbin.social/m/scifi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>scifi@kbin.social</span></a></span> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/summerreading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>summerreading</span></a></p>
Mar<p>Continuing the reading challenge: "read a classic", I listened to Le Petit Prince (by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry). Given how much I enjoyed branching out to other languages, I listened to it in French. The reading, by Bernard Giraudeau (a French actor), was excellent. </p><p>I used to have a level C in French, but without practice, I thought I'd lost most of it. I was so full of joy when I realized I could still understand it, that I had to stop the reading for a moment. <a href="https://social.coop/tags/SummerReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SummerReading</span></a></p>
Mar<p>I eventually found, and listened to, a Spanish translation of Pride and Prejudice. I found it on YouTube, and the reader was very engaging. I had missed some of the details the couple of times I listened to it in English, so there was some advantage to listening to it in my first language. Book 2 out of 5!</p><p>I never know if audiobooks count as reading, but given ... life... it's all I got right now. </p><p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/SummerReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SummerReading</span></a></p>

Mar<p>Planning my next book for the library's <a href="https://social.coop/tags/SummerReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SummerReading</span></a> challenge. </p><p>The challenge comes in the form of a bingo card with different reading prompts. I already have a square, so I'm deciding if I should attempt the row or the column. A part of me is deciding based on the possibility of only doing Jane Austin novels to make use of my <a href="https://social.coop/tags/AuDHD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AuDHD</span></a> hyperfocus mode :blobcatuwu:</p><p>However they are hard to get at the library, so I'll probably find something else.</p>

Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>Has anyone else in Public Libraries noticed a signficant townturn in Summer Reading participation?</p><p>Now, I am in Adult and our Children's department is for the first time in ages, (though that's changing in a few weeks,) fully staffed, but I have had <em>no one</em> ask me about it since it started. </p><p>I'm wondering if this is a my branch thing, a "we have shit prizes this year" thing, or a systemic thing.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Libraries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Libraries</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/PublicLibraries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PublicLibraries</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/SummerReading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SummerReading</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/SummerReading2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SummerReading2025</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/SummerReadingChallenge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SummerReadingChallenge</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaLibrarian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaLibrarian</span></a></p>
