Lex Feathers 🌸<p>How do people on Mastodon attach <a href="https://tenforward.social/tags/tags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tags</span></a> to the bottom of a post rather than ram them into the body text? </p><p>This is the difference that could actually see me using them more.</p>
Feoh<p>I know people build INCREDIBLY complex bookmark collections in their browsers.</p><p>My brain just doesn't work that way. If you force me to create hierarchies, they will suck and be annoying.</p><p>I want tags. My brain runs on tag clouds. No wonder I favor tools like <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/obsidian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>obsidian</span></a> and <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/joplin_notes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>joplin_notes</span></a> for note taking and <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/linkding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linkding</span></a> to keep track of links I want to remember.</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/brains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>brains</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/tags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tags</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/links" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>links</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/bookmarks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookmarks</span></a></p>
John Socks<p><a href="https://socks.masto.host/tags/tags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tags</span></a> are what stitch together the fediverse. I think we got to remember to use at least one.</p><p>At least for any conversational topic.</p><p>Some higher number is probably excessive but that's for each of us to decide. An individual preference.</p><p>Mute with more than X might actually be an interesting feature.</p>
TVirus<p>Is there any way to block or hide posts with certain <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/tags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tags</span></a> in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mastodon</span></a> app? Any <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/help" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>help</span></a> is greatly appreciated. <br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/techsupport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techsupport</span></a></p>
Karl Voit :emacs: :orgmode:<p>Planned to add file name descriptions and <a href="https://graz.social/tags/tags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tags</span></a> to my recent photos while taking a train ride.</p><p>Unfortunately, tab-completion of my Python-based <a href="https://graz.social/tags/tagging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tagging</span></a> tool doesn't work at the moment and I have no idea why. This makes my tagging session an unpleasant one.</p><p>So I created a bug report for it: <a href="https://github.com/novoid/filetags/issues/74" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/novoid/filetags/iss</span><span class="invisible">ues/74</span></a></p><p>The only thing that worries me is that it's my own tool, that has this bug and I don't know how to fix it. 😔 🤦‍♂️ </p><p>Could be related to <a href="https://graz.social/tags/readline" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>readline</span></a>, terminal emulator, pyreadline version, ... 🤷 </p><p><a href="https://graz.social/tags/filetags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>filetags</span></a></p>
petersuber<p>𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱. </p><p>I've been tracking the impact of <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> actions on US research, primarily in this Mastodon thread. But the thread is becoming long and unwieldy, and this problem will only get worse.</p><p>I'll continue to track this news but I want to stop doing it primarily in threads. Once I depend less on threads, I'll depend more on <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/tags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tags</span></a> to help readers find the posts in this collection. </p><p>I already use <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/DefendResearch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DefendResearch</span></a> and will to continue to do so.</p><p>It comes from the Declaration To Defend Research Against US Government Censorship.<br><a href="https://www.defendresearch.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">defendresearch.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>But I want to supplement it with a more Trump-specific tag. After mulling over a few possibilities — like TrumpAdminOnResearch and ResearchUnderTrump — I've decided to go with <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/TrumpVResearch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrumpVResearch</span></a>. </p><p>Thanks to Alice Meadows and Suze Kundu for the suggestion. <br><a href="https://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2025/04/30/trump-v-research-how-we-could-turn-the-threats-into-opportunities/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/20</span><span class="invisible">25/04/30/trump-v-research-how-we-could-turn-the-threats-into-opportunities/</span></a></p><p>I won't add this tag retroactively to (many) past posts. But going forward I'll use both <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/DefendResearch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DefendResearch</span></a> and <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/TrumpVResearch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrumpVResearch</span></a> for posts in this collection. </p><p>To follow these topics, consider following these tags.</p><p>I encourage others to use these tags too, in posts on the same topics. It's one way to <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/crowdsource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crowdsource</span></a> this tracking project. </p><p>Here's more on this tracking project and the need to crowdsource it.<br><a href="https://fediscience.org/@petersuber/114031943643988590" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">fediscience.org/@petersuber/11</span><span class="invisible">4031943643988590</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/USPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>USPol</span></a> <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/USPolitics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>USPolitics</span></a></p>
artiso did i get this right:?<br>the main thingy is mastodon<br>the protocols are open<br>there is more (like friendica, diaspora, ...?)<br>my instances server fetches all that stuff from all the other instances (over time)?<br>so can mastodon users see my screaming into the void (i understand @endless screaming now)?<br>or can i just see their posts and interact with them, as my instance crawls anything available?<br>are there cutoffs / limits / if not shown after timeout never seen?<br>is there a way to get back to the post i tried to comment on which disapeas after i am finished typing (as coming from facebook i alsways type in an external editor, then paste, not to provide biometric typing data)...<br>aaand: i create my bubble over time by using <a href="https://friendica.world/search?tag=tags" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tags</span></a>? or by the tags defined in my profile? or both? or is there anyhow some kind of algorithm filtering and selecting what to show (feels mind blowingly open but somehow lonely the same time)?<br>do i need followers or friends for it "to be like at ..."?<br>will somepwny even read or answer this?
