#CardboardBoy crows this morning that the 'first channel migrant has been detained'

#AsylumSeekers
#refugees

In 1998, Labour published a white paper titled Fairer, faster and firmer - a modern approach to detention centres. It promised

"The number of detention centres would be brought up to 2,800 by 2005"

In 1993, the immigration act had given the legal basis for asylum seekers to be fingerprinted - as if they were common criminals.

Why do we treat those that have suffered like this?

When he sat in his golf house, Trump berated Sadiq Khan as a “nasty person.” He sung the praises of #Frogface. He repeatedly cut the Prime Minister off and lectured him endlessly with inane rants about immigration and energy policy. Starmer’s response was tepid: a few careful smiles, some polite nods, and no challenge to Trump’s tirades. .

#CardboardBoy looked and acted like a foreign dignitary in his own country !

The Labour Party, under the leadership of #CardboardBoy included the recognition of a Palestinian state in its manifesto for the election in 2024

That pledge marked a shift from the party’s previous stance, which, in the 2019 manifesto, promised immediate recognition of Palestine because it emphasised that it should occur “at an appropriate time"

THAT TIME IS TODAY

My thoughts about why Starmer is letting the children of #gaza starve to death

So sorry this is a thread

#cardboardBoy has before now blurred the distinctions between criticism of #Israel and antisemitism, and has referred to Israel as a beacon of democracy in defiance of his own party’s motion declaring it an apartheid state, and denounced all activism in favour of boycotts, even those targeting Israel’s illegal settlements.

Andy Slaughter is pushing #CardboardBoy at some Committee Meeting saying, 'We have heard you say about the ceasefire before but every day we are seeing new horrors, more deaths and our citizens are looking to you to try and make that ceasefire happen. What will that be?"

>he has gone beetroot red<

KS ums and ers and says "the situation on the ground is intolerable' and in a fucked up tautology he says 'we are working hard to get to that ceasefire and that's part of the work we are doing"

#cardboardboy in reference to the Afghan Data Breach says at #pmqs that ministers opposite have serious questions to answer, but then so has his government for refusing to grant asylum to a good many Afghani people and families

Debbie Abrahams chair of the Work and Pensions Committee has come out tonight and said, "we are still not convinced, and it is looking like we still want to table the amendment."

Such a pronoun!

#welfarereformbill

#Cardboardboy could be in a LOT of trouble tomorrow.

[Nb what I wrote about there has only ever been one majority g'ment that has lost a 2bd reading bill throughout the 20th and 21st centuries]

#Streeting says on #BBCLauraK about the amendment "signed by over 100 MPs" and "we are not perfect. No government is perfect"

Fun fact

Throughout the entire 20th and 21st centuries there was only ONE bill that a majority government had failed on the second reading.

Should Tuesday be a failure for #CardboardBoy then there will be TWO bills that had failed

That would put Starmer in a very precarious position.

Even if this passes, I can't see how Kendall Mint Cakes can remain

Xx

Gary Gibbon of #Channel4News says to #CardboardBoy, "Presumably you must think Iran represents a real threat to Israel otherwise you would not have said that Israel still has a right to defend itself"

He looks confused and replies: ''I have always been clear in my mind's eye that we need to de-esceleate"

.... And then his batteries ran out

#CardboardBoy is asked whether the UK could be involved in helping Israel deflect retaliatory drone and missile strikes from Iran

He replies:

“These are obviously operational decisions, and the situation is ongoing and developing, and therefore I’m not going to get into the precise details. But we are moving assets. We’ve already been moving assets to the region, including jets, and that is for contingency support across the region. So that is happening."

WTAF!!
