A fun little thing I never thought to do in #Bitwig: put some arbitrary audio clip in Repitch mode and then aggressively quantise the audio. The wild pitch changes make for fun discoveries. I’ve been doing it on field recordings that have some decent spikes in them, finding bits of interest.

After three weeks using the Ottopot controller by @gerotakke, I can confidently say that I LOVE IT. With Bitwig it's like hand in glove.

The only thing that bothers me a bit is the LED brightness in my dim light studio. After some iterations, I am going to order custom stickers. I'm an Inkscape nullity but I got what I wanted from it. In the pics, my "prototype" with plain paper printed with an old inkjet. Approved! I'm ordering the stickers on Monday.

To follow up on my last video you can actually measure how compressed a signal is. In the RMS world, this is called Crest Factor. It helps you get a sense of whether you’ve gone too far with compression or saturation.

I’m also sharing a handy tool for Bitwig that lets you measure it directly. But even if you’re using Ableton Live, Cubase, or Logic, you can use a plugin like dpMeter to check the compression levels in your tracks.

How I made the track 'Coral and Mimsy’.

Hi Coral. Hi Mimsy. Hi ... Jeremy Irons. What does this have to do with my silly bit of music? Not so much!

Anyway!

Connections between the tracks on the album, this being blog post 9 of 10.

Writing things in order to reverse them!

Building a random-sounding instrument selector, so every time a chord plays the individual notes are on a different combo of sounds.

I updated my Melody Maker script for Bitwig. New features include Motif Development, Random Velocity, Timbre, Pressure, and Release Velocity for expressive modulations. Rhythmic Emphasis helps place important notes in key positions. The loop range, start, and end point of the clip now adjust based on the selected bar size, and there’s a new button to generate an alternate version of the current sequence.
