Ranchers say expanding herds to take advantage of record retail beef prices isn’t so simple
Farmers and ranchers across the U.S. would love to capitalize on the high prices, but with the U.S. herd at record lows, they can’t meet the demand quickly.
It takes three years to increase the herd, taking into consideration the time for gestation, birth, and raising the calf until the calf is old enough to reproduce.

I love my little mini jersey cows. We have three girls that keep our 10 acres mowed. Lots of love, treats and lounging in the shade. :) I had to work with this beautiful face!

Notes from a distant time
Members of the family from Ireland were visiting and amongst other things this came up. My uncle (as a slightly younger man) discussing liff the universe and everything with a bull on the farm (although looking at it I wonder whether it is the mart?) . Carlow we think, 1950s? He is still farming (my uncle that is)/

I have about an acre that I could fence on my property and am thinking about livestock. Need recommendations. Advice on mini-cattle, llamas, alpacas, goats, etc?
We live in the Cascade foothills on the wet side. Lots of trees. I'd love to get a donkey but they can't handle the lush grass we have here and would require a lot of hay.
