#Spiraea douglasii or #hardhack is a BC #NativePlant with spires of pink fuzzy flowers, popular with pollinators.
Hardhacks are larval hosts to many butterfly species including Lorquin’s admiral, swallowtail & spring azure butterflies.

This is fireweed, a rather glorious #NativePlant that appears in profusion in my yard each year. It's taller than you are! I've read that parts of it are edible, so I'm going to try some nibbles to see if it might become a part of my salads.

One thing that's an ongoing #permaculture lesson for me in my garden #rewilding journey is that certain #NativePlant species that aren't too attractive looking or otherwise don't seem to provide much benefit actually serve a big role as host plants. For the #texas area, plants like goldenrod (Solidago altissima), horse weed (Erigeron canadensis) and prairie false foxglove (Agalinis heterophylla), despite not looking as interesting most of the year, serve a vital supportive role for pollinators and other beneficial insects that some of the other plants with greater year-round interest don't really do.
All that to say, consider creating zones in your area where these plants can grow too.
New species in my garden!
A Painted Lady on a Black-eyed Susan.
The caterpillars feed on thistles and I have a few.
They also feed on mallows. I need to get some mallows, actually, especially the U.S. temperate version of the popular Hibiscus.
The platter-shaped flowers of the Swamp Rose-Mallow would look great. Even better, they provide food for #NativeBees and caterpillars of two other butterflies: the Gray Hairstreak and Common Checkered-skipper.
That would be serious habitat building!

Looking up this afternoon: those fireweeds are over 6 ft tall! Chamaenerion angustifolium, also known as Epilobium angustifolium

Thank you all for your help!
Now I know I'm going to have a hard time getting rid of Aegopodium podagraria (on the left).
Native Honeysuckle (Lonicera ciliosa), native to the PNW west of the Cascades, is blooming in our yard. More of a rambler than a climber, it’s blooming ahead of the aphid emergence and looking snazzy against the blue sky.

Rhododendron calendulaceum, a native azalea to me, really knows how to steal the show.

Continuing the #NativePlant odyssey!
I now possess the ordered Keystone Plant seeds and have planted some of a goldenrod species.
These needed to be kept for *60 days* in wet cool treatment, which was a surprise to me because it was not mentioned in the general description on the nursery's web site. Clear instructions were provided by the nursery, though.

Continuing to plan my #NativePlant purchases…
Taking my list of Keystone plants, I have completed some research on availability.
I normally do mass plantings, so I look for seeds as an economical choice, but they also give me ability to stagger my plantings.
Mass plantings attract #pollinators better and provide more space for more caterpillars to drive food webs. More
Who else is buying seeds now? Plan to get any natives?
