This week's #ThursDeath is a great promo from earlier this month via Tarragona, Spain's CEREBRAL CURSE. As they describe it themselves, "three tracks of raw, slow-burning death metal.. twisted riffs, decaying pace, and suffocating tone." I agree. Definitely not one to miss, and I'm keeping my eyes on these guys-- psyched for more from them.

This week's #ThursDeath is a huge contender this year - it surprised me and grew on me. Seymour, Tennessee's EXORENCY and their new LP 'Obsecration of Immortal Flesh' is a banger of a metal record. Real OSDM feel - riffs for days, killer drums, small amount of black metal screech vocal, less than Skeletonwitch. They remind me of Skeletonwitch sometimes, but no thrash here. Exorency is definitely more on the cavernous, death/doom side.

This week's #ThursDeath is Glasgow's ABYSMAL DECAY. These guys put out this 2 song demo earlier this year and it has a great cavernous grimy kind of sound to it. Some cool dynamics with the slow to the very fast tempos too, solid OSDM feel. And even a slimy, crusty solo or two from whatever crypt or cave they created this in.

This week's #ThursDeath is a huge new favorite. The fittingly titled 'IV', the new fourth album from Gulfport, Mississippi's CAVE, starts with an abrasive, rough roar and eventually forms into a pummeling and chugging inferno by the end of the first track and into the second. And then the rest! Cave's drummer is beyond talented, as are the rest of these folks. I dig the walls of guitars, the rawness, and everything about this brutal and original OSDM style LP.

This week's #ThursDeath is the excellent new debut EP that Saint Petersburg, Russia's PUTRID REQUIEM just put out a couple weeks ago, 'Engulfed in Rot... You Lay'. This is a crusty, grody, growly and surprisingly dynamic and tight ripper with a dark, OSDM feel. And the last track is a Mortician cover. What else could you ask for.

Los Angeles, California's PUTRESCENT have a new LP coming out next month called 'Darkness Embraced' and I'm psyched to hear it based on the strength of this 3 song EP they released in 2023 -- the reason why it's this week's #ThursDeath. The drums on this thing are RIDICULOUS, the drummer is SAVAGE. Great guitar, grime, dynamics, the whole thing is a tasty slab of that osdm feel.

San José, Costa Rica's CANDARIAN is a talented death metal band and they put out the excellent 'Stagnant Livor Mortis' demo in 2022. I appreciate it when death metal bands try to do different things, interesting riffs, dynamics, not just the same note riff over the same kind of drums the entire time. This week's #ThursDeath is one I've been meaning to feature for a while - the excellent BASTARD GRAVE from Helsingborg, Sweden and their incredible, riffy third LP 'Vortex of Digust' from 2023. This one is a crushing, crunching fantastic listen of a death metal record with a real old school feel.

Something crushing and heavy I've been enjoying, for this week's #ThursDeath - Mexico City's REVERENCE TO PAROXYSM and their killer LP 'Lux Morte' that I somehow missed in 2023. #ThursDeath for this week is Columbia, South Carolina's IMPEST. They released a demo just a little over a year ago, and these three tracks are chock full of grody riffs and some great dynamics. Psyched to see what else these guys do, they're tight and have an excellent old school type sound.

Vienna, Austria's FESSUS have promised their first full length this year, and from the sound of this 2023 demo 'Pilgrims of Morbidity', it's gonna be killer.
