lots more amphibian activity tonight. one of my favorites found, behold the four-toed salamander (Hemidactylium scutatum) in all their tiny glory. Most salamanders have 4 toes on front and 5 toes on hind feet, but this one is unique with 4 toes on all. sorry hard to photograph that characteristic but please enjoy other cuteness characteristics.

went on a night walk to check some vernal pools, first warm rainy night …no activity yet, but found first spotted salamander of the season on the move. And one red-backed salamander was out and about as well.

And the squad leader is done! Someone is overcompensating…

The squad leader for the Salamander Adherents. He stands out from his peers by virtue of having a fancy topknot (red) and carrying a fuckhuge hammer. He still holds - somehow - a red combiflamer. Dude must be ripped under that black armor. The hammer is “molten” .

Today's scribble (I'm trying to keep up training): Ak'nun "Flamesmote* Xen.
He is one of the guys who saved the Chalice of Fire (one of the few artifacts Vulkan didn't order to destroy) from falling into the hands of the Dark Mechanicum and kept vigil until well into the 40th Millenium.

I like him, because he's a hotheaded swordsman. (I have a type)

He can be found in the Heresy-series-novel "Born of Flame" by the wonderful Nick Kyme.

Damn, I miss miniature painting so much!
Three months. Three months and then I'll no longer have to take the meds that give me slight tremors in my fingers. End of May!

So here's a tiny bit of my progress from last year, when I started painting little guys (yeah, I'm still such a noob!)

A group of Plague Marines and Apothecary Khorag Sinj. They are painted in Heresy colour scheme but are clearly 40k.

Haemonculus Hexachires, Fabius Bile and a Vatborn. All have very big bases.

Two 40k Salamanders Terminators and one First Born Salamander. All stand on toxic green slime-bases that throw light on their armour.

Five 3rd party Noise Marines. All carry sonic weapons and are painted in pre-Heresy purple and gold.

This is one of the first good shots I took after getting into DSLRs. Pictured is a spring salamander, one of the larger lungless salamanders in the northeast. This was taken in southern Pennsylvania in 2019 if memory serves. Spring salamanders exhibit a variety of colorations from brown to red. I've only caught two in my lifetime, though I don't believe they're particularly uncommon.

#Salamanders #spacemarine rhino done - very happy that this is the third of three. Not my absolute favorite model but they’re kind of necessary in most armies. I could nitpick and find more to do on this thing but I’m happy enough with it and would rather move on.
