Final review:

Donkey Kong Bananza is a 10/10 game in my book. Just an absolutely amazing game from start to finish. Nintendo does some of their best work when they "get weird", and this game definitely had some extremely weird aspects to it — which I loved. Bananza is a stellar return to 3D for the Donkey Kong franchise, and I sure hope we get another game in this series sooner rather than later.

While I definitely enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey, I didn't *love* the Cappy mechanic.

Donkey Kong Bananza is, in my opinion, a far superior game to Odyssey.

( Yes, I am aware that is going to be a very controversial statement. 😬 )

That said, there would be no Bananza without Odyssey. The team at Nintendo that built these games is absolutely one of the best in the industry.

Bananza clearly feels like a follow-up to Odyssey, while forging it's own path.

I finally beat Donkey Kong Bananza last night. I had hoped to the night before, but I was once again not actually at the end when I thought I was. The game just kept going— absolutely packed with content.

I simply can't say enough good things about this game. It is, for sure, one of my favorite 3D platformers of all time.

I can't wait to go back through and 100% each Layer — in addition to playing the post-game content.

I have pretty much not stopped playing #DonkeyKongBananza since I got it ~10 days ago, and just barely handled family responsibilities since. I’m not proud about it, but I just can’t stop smashing terrain hunting for bananas. Are there therapy groups for this yet?

Hit 100% completion on #DonkeyKongBananza last night. Masterpiece game.

I’ve noted that everyone calls it a platformer in their headlines and reviews, but the distinction is getting really thin lately. Mechanically, there isn’t much distinguishing this from modern adventure rpgs or metroidvanias.

It has a skill tree. Challenge rooms are effectively Zelda shrines. Open areas are strung together with a linear overarching narrative.

#Nintendo game” almost captures more than any genre.
