#shrimp

The amano #shrimp family has grown by three individuals: a lovely chestnut-colored one, a tiny little yellow one and a milky white individual. Now there are a total of 5 - I think I will leave it at that, since the #aquarium isn’t that big.

If I had the time and resources I’d love to see what their F1 progeny would look like. But not in this economy :blobcatfrown:

New shromp alert! I initially thought it was female due to its patterning but then eggs appeared on the big female one day after the new one was added to the tank, so I guess it wasn’t…

It’s like half the size of lady and more bluish, but I wonder if this coloration will change once it adjusts to its new diet and habitat. I will be adding three more amano #shrimp and then the group will be complete! #aquarium

Footage of the #shrimp that came with the #aquarium gorging itself on some feed (possibly the first proper meal it got in a long time - it really went ham on those pellets)

I didn’t have much interest in shrimp before but they’re growing on me.

Based on my research this is an amano shrimp aka Yamato shrimp aka #Caridina multidentata, and probably a lady. The next step is to get her some housemates as they shouldn’t be kept alone.

"Oplophoroidea migrate vast distances, up and down in the water column. Some of them have special glowing organs that they use to camouflage, defend themselves and maybe even communicate. They have evolved a diversity of light-detecting proteins that can help them navigate"
