Proxima Centauri is our nearest stellar neighbor and is known to be a very active M dwarf #star.

Known to host a potentially #habitable #planet, the star #Proxima exhibits very active #flare activity in optical wavelengths.

Depending on the energy and frequency of these flares, nearby planets in the habitable zone might be rendered uninhabitable as the flares strip planetary atmospheres of necessary ingredients such as ozone and water.

What happens when a newly formed #star captures material from a nearby cloud?

Gas, dust, and rocky materials swirl around recently formed #stars, creating a circumstellar disk that seeds the formation of #planets.

Recent observations of some of these disks reveal filamentary structures of material falling into the disk, feeding the planet-forming environment with new ingredients in a process known as “late-stage infall.”

AAS Nova · A Late-Stage Infall Renovation: Mapping the Circumstellar Disk of AB AurigaeWhat happens when a young star captures some extra gas and dust? New observations of a dusty disk reveals how a late-stage infall event may be influencing planet formation in AB Aurigae.

A #JWST image of Herbig-Haro 49/50 — a frothy-looking outflow from a nearby #protostar — with a multi-hued spiral #galaxy.

Herbig-Haro objects are outflows produced by jets launched from a nearby, forming #star.

The outflows, which can extend for light-years, plow into a denser region of material.

This creates shock waves, heating the material to higher temperatures.

The material then cools by emitting light at visible and infrared wavelengths.

Extremely Large Telescope should be able to gather spectra not just on #exoplanets that transit their #star, but also from non-transiting exoplanets via reflected starlight.

It should be possible to make clear and accurate distinctions for nearby star systems.

For the closest star, #Proxima Centauri, we could detect #life on an Earth-like world Proxima b with only 10 hours of observations.
