@AlexanderKingsbury SilLabs missed the boat of #FOSS open standards, so my guess is opening #zwave was to try and keep it relevant. Not seen any other chips, so IMHO failed (& Z-Wave LR looks industrial - LoRa-ish).
#Matter kit is ideal for those who want some tech, but don’t want a #NabuCasa Green.
You can use #Matter kit with Google/ Apple/ Amazon today, but add to #HomeAssistant or another platform tomorrow without pain.
The range is still a bit limited - e.g. the #Sonoff Mini4RM is good.
Random shout-out to @homeassistant: My Proxmox server hosting various services suffered a hard drive failure and went into read-only mode. ALL services apart from home assistant failed. Home Assistant still mostly works, apart from the recorder and integrations that depend on external hardware USB sticks. But the whole TCP/IP stack and integrations based on it still work flawlessly.
