Any recommendations for local-only IoT devices (Z-Wave, Zigbee, or a device I can flash with ESPHome) suitable for switching a relatively large, inductive 120V AC load?
Specifically, it's a septic pump that draws about 15A while running, but spikes up as high as 40A when it first starts. Makes me a little nervous to run it via a Sonoff POW or similar which would have been my go-to otherwise.
Helped a friend with a #ZWave issue. Was having issues with slowness and lost messages.
Looked at the network graph found in zwave-js-ui in #HomeAssistant we could see a lot of devices routing through a specific device. Once we power cycle it we had big improvements. Also did a network heal so the the routes are rebuilt just in case.
I've seen this multiple times where a specific device could be causing issues and just needs to have the power cut for a few seconds.
Sharing just in case.
Before I go old testament on this #ecobee for dropping their API access, are there any known workarounds for integrating it with #HomeAssistant without relying on #HomeKit ?
I have a basic stat that supports #ZWave, but would lose out on the remote probes feature which sadly I'm pretty invested in.
Hmm, maybe someone has written a system to replicate the ecobee's remote probes features within HA using generic temperature sensors?
Grateful for any suggestions.
@AlexanderKingsbury SilLabs missed the boat of #FOSS open standards, so my guess is opening #zwave was to try and keep it relevant. Not seen any other chips, so IMHO failed (& Z-Wave LR looks industrial - LoRa-ish).
#Matter kit is ideal for those who want some tech, but don’t want a #NabuCasa Green.
You can use #Matter kit with Google/ Apple/ Amazon today, but add to #HomeAssistant or another platform tomorrow without pain.
The range is still a bit limited - e.g. the #Sonoff Mini4RM is good.
Anyone who uses @homeassistant please fill out their community survey and share it with others. They are trying to better understand who uses and interacts with HA so they can better support the user base. Since they are not doing crazy invasive things that commercial platforms do, they don't have a lot of this info and have to rely on it being provided via surveys and such. https://home-assistant.typeform.com/communitysurvey

Hrm. First time tried Matter in my Homeassistant. Ended up removing that again, will send them plugs back and get me ones with Zwave or Zigbee. Those at least do work.
First of I had to get a different phone, or that companion app always insisted on "No wifi available" (a clear lie, obviously, just accessed my HA over wifi). And then when trying to setup the plug, the app hang right after the configure step (I saw it on the wifi router) trying to speak to it again. Just never found it. Device was pinging nicely, but the app never found it.
Marked as beta, so will try again in some months time, but now the stuff needs to work, no time for debugging sessions.
